"The founders of alt-country, The Long Ryders, release their first new album in over thirty years on February 15 2019 when Psychedelic Country Soul hits the airwaves and enters the shops. Featuring the classic line-up of Sid Griffin, Stephen McCarthy, Tom Stevens and Greg Sowders, it makes the day after Valentine's Day as much a romantic celebration. The stunning new album follows hot on the heels of the deluxe reissue treatment given to two classic Long Ryders long players, State of Our Union and Two-Fisted Tales. Featuring eleven new Long Ryders compositions and a tribute cover of the late great Tom Petty's song 'Walls', this is a Long Ryders for the 21st century; kicking off with the anthemic 'Greenville', a track which proves the band haven't lost any of that magic guitar interplay. 'Molly Somebody' is an eclectic pop tune that doesn't neglect any of their country and rock sensibilities, while the likes of 'What the Eagle Sees' reflects the energy of early punk and power pop that so informed them in the early days. You can still hear their personal connection with the music of the 1960s', but as ever The Long Ryders aren't a band who live in the past. Album closer 'Psychedelic Country Soul' is the greatest testament to that, performed like the previous 11 songs, with precision and fire; the guitars weave and harmonicas build and ebb, the song spreading like wildfire. The Long Ryders have always been celebrated for what they have to say as much as the music they make. With Psychedelic Country Soul their message delivered with 12 strings and never-ending harmonies has never been clearer."

"The expanded 3-CD follow up to the iconic now out of print 50,000 Fall Fans Can't be Wrong compilation, now features songs right up to the groups last album. Compiled and annotated by long time Fall aficionado Daryl Easlea from across all the labels the band has appeared on. The booklet designed by long time Fall designer Becky Stewart contains a track by track overview. Mastered by Andy Pearce from the best sources available. Formed in Manchester in 1976, Fall were a seminal English post-punk group. The group existed in some form from that point on, built around its founder and only constant member, the late, great Mark E. Smith. Initially associated with the punk movement of the late 1970s, the group's music underwent stylistic changes over the years, but was always characterized by an abrasive guitar-driven sound and frequent use of repetition, underpinned by Smith's distinctive vocals and often cryptic lyrics. This compilation is ideal for anyone wanting to discover the weird and wonderful world of the Fall. 'They are always different; they are always the same.'"

"Dinosaur Jr. need no introduction. One of the most successful and influential alternative guitar bands from America, and fronted by laconic singer/guitarist J. Mascis, they've enjoyed global success and inspired generations, from Grunge onwards. First issued in 2002 only in the States and Australia, Ear Bleeding Country is the only career-spanning compilation of Dinosaur Jr. This is the first time this collection has been made available outside of those territories. With the full support of the band, Ear Bleeding Country now boasts a whole second CD of highlights from the band's career, bringing the story up-to-date in 2018, with selections chosen by the band's huge fan base. The first six tracks on Disc 1 and the first three tracks on Disc 2 are drawn from the band's early career in the 1980s, when they recorded for independent labels like Homestead and SST. Among them are the classic single 'Freak Scene' and the follow-up cover of The Cure's 'Just Like Heaven'. Most of the compilation samples the best of Dinosaur Jr.'s output after signing with Warner Bros in 1990, including hit singles such as 'The Wagon', 'Whatever's Cool With Me', 'Out There', 'Start Choppin' and 'Feel The Pain'. Also included are two tracks by J. Mascis' post-Dinosaur Jr. band The Fog and tracks from Dinosaur Jr.'s more recent albums (issued since 2002, when Ear Bleeding Country originally came out), including the band's most recent single 'Hold Unknown'! This package has now been remastered and includes original sleeve-notes by Byron Coley and a new introductory essay from Dinosaur Jr. fan Henry Rollins!"

"Back in summer 1968, The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown were on top of the world. Famously promoted by performances with Arthur Brown wearing a burning helmet, 'Fire!' was a massive worldwide hit, topping the charts in the UK and Canada and eventually reaching the Top 10 in America (No. 2), France, Germany, Austria, The Netherlands and Ireland. The band's second single on Track Records, co-produced by The Who's Pete Townshend, it bridged the gap between London's flourishing, colorful psychedelic underground and the mainstream pop scene. The resulting album, The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown, was a theatrical, ambitious concept album based around the elements (fire being just one of four, of course). Such was the huge impact of 'Fire' that the album sold in huge quantities, peaking at No. 2 in the UK and No. 7 in America. The Beatles were the only other British band to enjoy such unprecedented sales with such ambitious, psychedelic lps. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of this landmark record, Cherry Red are delighted to present this deluxe edition box set of The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown. Alongside the stereo album and numerous bonus tracks, the rare Mono mix appears on CD for the first time, as well as three additional, previously unissued BBC sessions and four other radio recordings, plus a handful of pre-Track recordings by Arthur Brown before he formed Crazy World... Lavishly packaged within a 12' x 12' box set, and complete with a stereo vinyl replica of the original LP and a poster, The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown is augmented by a 12,000-word sleeve-note from Mojo magazine's Mark Paytress (including fresh quotes from Arthur and others), alongside a wealth of illustrations and three previously unissued photos from the original front cover session."

Two-disc special edition. "The Residents, long known as the world's most mysterious and reclusive band, are pleased to announce a new chapter in their lengthy and legendary career. Teaming up with PledgeMusic, the group is releasing not just a new album but a completely new concept: I Am A Resident! After inviting their fans to create original versions of the band's songs, The Residents were blown away by the submission of 197 amazing pieces of music. Stimulated by this outpouring of creativity, the group molded this material into the ultimate mashup: editing, looping, over dubbing and regurgitating, The Residents reinterpreted their fans' interpretations, resulting in layer on top of layer on top of layer. Hauntingly familiar and achingly wrong at the same time, I Am A Resident! is both original and completely unexpected. It also only fits into one singular category -- a Residents' album."

"Levitate is the Fall's 19th album originally released in 1997 on Artful Records. It has been out of print for a number of years now and is much sought after by fans. It's the last album to feature two long-time Fall members, drummer Karl Burns and bass player Steve Hanley (whose playing was once described by Smith as the defining element of the group's music). The album was initially going to be produced by Keir Stewart and Simon Spencer (who previously collaborated with Smith under the moniker D.O.S.E. on the 1995 single 'Plug Myself In'). Most of the recordings took place at Edwyn Collins' studio in West Hampstead. However, Stewart and Spencer soon fell out with Smith over payments and left after a week, taking most of the tapes with them. The only tracks from these sessions to make the album were '4½ Inch' (allegedly edited out of samples of a rehearsal recording), 'Spencer', later re-dubbed by Smith as 'Spencer Must Die', and 'The Quartet of Doc Shanley'. This re-issue has been re-mastered by long term Fall engineer Andy Pearce and features new sleeve notes by Daryl Easlea."

"Issued for the first time as a DVD collection, the videos of Julian Cope and Teardrop Explodes display some seminal moments of genius and English pop/rock history. This collection tracks ten years in the life of Julian Cope, through times when he burnt out, rose again, burnt out, and then rose again -- showing why he got the epithet 'flawed genius.' Beginning with his work as part of legendary UK rock band The Teardrop Explodes and continuing onto his highly successful solo career -- the DVD charts the extraordinary musical and personal journey that Cope experienced during the period. Many believe that he was a weirdo pretending to be normal -- but the theory of a normal guy pretending to be sub-normal and displaying genius is more than borne out by the contents of this DVD. These are the complete works of an enigma." Running time: 60 mins. 5.1 Surround Sound, NTSC format, Region-free.

"Before Miniatures, there was Hybrid Kids. Take a collection of classics by musical behemoths The Beatles, Kate Bush, The Sex Pistols, The Righteous Brothers, Brotherhood Of Man and suchlike, and perform them in a style as diametrically opposite to the original as one can imagine. Therein lies the manifesto that brought the world the wonderfully twisted take on pop music that is Hybrid Kids. Being the first album recorded in Fisher s own Pipe Studios (actually his Notting Hill bedsit, fact fans), Hybrid Kids was conceived as a compilation album featuring a variety of spoof 'bands' hailing from the very real but somewhat obscure Peabody (a town in Kansas, USA) each would perform their own take on a well known number, with wildly unpredictable results. Equally predictably, when the self styled Collection Of Classic Mutants was announced and discussed in the press, a large number of hipsters and music buffs believed every word and eagerly anticipated its release Phrases such as terrifying work of genius, downright creepy and nearly obscene were commonplace in reviews of the record, and it quickly passed into folklore as a work of unique originality and the kind of sonic experimentation rarely applied to such mainstream material. A true classic a fact highlighted by the media interest in its imminent reissue in combination with its equally intriguing sister album. So, having caused something of a stir with a warped compilation of material performed by non-existent acts from a far off town nobody had ever heard of, where does one go next? The answer, in retrospect, seems obvious the tried and tested Christmas album, performed by the self same Hybrid Kids. Claws (released a year after its predecessor), saw Morgan tackle such Xmas favorites as Deck The Halls, Good King Wenceslas and Happy Xmas (War Is Over) in his own inimitable style, with equally unorthodox results. Perhaps not one to play when Granny drops by for her pre Xmas lunch glass of sherry, but definitely something any discerning audio adventurer should find a few moments for amongst their festive celebrations. Both albums are accompanied by bonus tracks and have been retouched for 2008 by Morgan himself."

"A timely retrospective of one of the less heralded groups of the classic Cherry Red era of the early '80s but one in whom interest is growing. Musically akin to such contemporaries as Wire and This Heat, Five or Six had the distinction of providing the opening track ('Portrait') to Cherry Red's historic Pillows and Prayers compilation and this little masterpiece is duly featured on this Best Of collection. Also featured are such stellar singles as 'Another Reason' (produced by the late and very legendary Kevin Coyne) and 'Polar Exposure' and also the outstanding cuts from their impossibly rare and greatly sought after Spanish import album, Play Me That Song That Goes Yeah, Yeah, Yeah. After the group disbanded, its members went on to a multifarious range of artistic occupations, such as members of Spring Heel Jack, the Shock Headed Peters, at Factory Records and 4AD Records and in the drama department of the BBC."

2007 release. "Cherry Red is delighted to announce the release of another classic album from John Peel's Dandelion Records catalogue, 1971's self-titled Stack Waddy, a raucous four-piece from Manchester. Peel had first seen the band at the Buxton Blues Festival in September 1969. Their performance made a big impression, and a first single, 'Kentucky'/'Roadrunner', was released just under a year later in August 1970, they soon became Peel's favorite band on the label. Raw, rockin' power bottled in 1971 and unleashed again here! On stage they were loud, aggressive, fairly pissed and remarkably unsubtle, as befitted musicians who were often forced to supplement their meager gig money by working days on construction sites. Their frustrations and energies were poured into music that it was impossible to ignore. In fact, you were better off not to try to ignore it because one of the many Stack Waddy atrocity stories has John Knail (lead singer) jumping off-stage to beat to the floor a man who was paying more attention to his lady than to the band. As the late John Peel OBE said 'Stackwaddy were absolutely incorrigible, everything a rock' n 'roll band should be.'"

"As part of Cherry Red's 30th anniversary commemorations -- we shall be revisiting many key artists' releases and they will be remastered, repressed and re-promoted. What better than to kickstart proceedings with one of Mike Alway's first signings -- the esteemed band, Eyeless In Gaza. Here's what Martyn Bates himself has to say about the title song on this CD: '"Back From The Rains" -- my personal, utter favorite of anything we've ever, ever done... just something about the instrumentation gets me, really excites and moves me, quite apart from the song itself, which I'm so proud of -- the instrumentation, it's like a mad soupçon of different and clashing elements... the mournful harmonica, crazy wailing voices, a delicious bluesy bass line, and Pete's mad, wonderful drums; he plays a totally unorthodox set of drums, and it really works like a dream on the right song... he played drums all over Rust Red September, and it was his characteristic unorthodox approach that helped to make that album such an individual voice... but now, with this album, it's like we've got the best of both worlds, with Pete and Joby Palmer drumming in the studio. Strengths and weaknesses are shared, according to the demands of each song, whatever each song requires... tho' it's generally Joby who is the solid backbone type drummer, and Pete who is the 'eccentric' player, knocking and tapping and banging everything in sight at eighteen to the dozen... the lyric just has to be one of the most naked and tender things I've ever written... it echoes "Welcome Now" in its sentiment, really, except that it's so much more personal and close, so close it aches... that's me doing the barmy soprano choirboy bit in the background; a duet with myself, thanks to the miracle of technology! ...if I never lift another finger to make any more music, it's almost as if "That's OK, everything's said now"; to me it's so special -- I don't know, we must have been possessed when we recorded this!'"

"Medium Medium were originally signed to Cherry Red in 1981 and were one of the first signings of then A&R man Mike Alway. The band's first single, Hungry, So Angry caused quite an immediate stir at club and alternative radio level, and created quite a buzz around the band. The single was picked up by alternative radio in the U.S. and featured for several weeks in the Billboard Alternative Top 50 chart. The band recorded one album for Cherry Red, The Glitterhouse which received consistently good reviews. However, the band broke up in 1983 but were not forgotten as 'Hungry, So Angry' has been used on many compilation CDs over the years, especially in the U.S. This overdue CD re-press consists of 15 tracks and also includes the very rare promo video of 'Hungry, So Angry; as an enhanced track."

"Principal Edwards Magic Theatre is one of those hard-to-classify bands that made the late '60s a musical adventure playground for listeners. What was more, the live music scene and airwaves were broad-minded enough to give bands who dared to be different the chance of exposure. They enjoyed the attention of the late John Peel who broadcast them on his BBC shows and made them the first band to be signed to his Dandelion record label. The Devon Tapes was recorded in the summer of 1974 under the shorter name Principal Edwards. This is the first time these recordings have been made available to the public."

"As part of Cherry Red's 30th anniversary commemorations, we shall be revisiting many key artist's releases and they will be remastered, re-pressed and re-promoted. Following on from our successful Eyeless In Gaza re-promotion, we are now delighted to re-press two solo Martyn Bates albums that were originally released in 1982 and 1987, respectively (CD issue was originally from 1996). If you are not familiar with these albums, then you are in for a positive treat! Martyn is an artist who has expressed his evolving vision over a period of more than 25 years. He has no time for any concept of musical purity and instead seems to bend and adapt it to become part of his wider notion of folk arts. His is a true evolution of traditional creative arts, providing signposts for our reintegration with the landscape and nature. Martyn spends his time creating music that is music which brings together our past with the present, expressing his hope for change through the bringing together of art, nature and humanity."
