Toy Tonics presents Gomma Dancefloor Gems Vol. 1. It's all about Y2K, punkfunk and indie disco. Gomma was one of the key labels of the Y2K indie dance wave along with labels like James Murphy's DFA and Trevor Jackson's OUTPUT Records. And as the '90s revival that dominated the last years in fashion and electronic music reached its peak, the Toy Tonics gang thought it's a good moment to re-mind some of these early 2000s tracks that connected a more raw, indie disco and punky funk vibe. Not just music people like James Murphy, who did music with Gomma before starting his own LCD Soundsystem or bands like Chromeo, New Young Pony Club, or Soulwax who started later with a similar vibe, but also art, graphic and fashion people took inspiration from the Gomma world. When new labels popped up copying the Gomma attitude and styles (till these days), Gomma's head honcho and main inventor Mathias Modica stopped the whole thing, changed the name and started something new: Toy Tonics records. Mathias Modica aka Munk aka Kapote himself now is busy with Toy Tonics, which basically is bigger than Gomma ever was: Spreading a very own sound of organic house and disco funk. With party happenings all over Europe every weekend and a very young audience. Featuring: Moullinex & Peaches, Munk, Whomadewho, Golden Bug, Headman, Baldelli, Trans Mania, Leroy Hanghofer, Severino Horse Meat Disco, and Rodion.

Toy Tonics going new wave disco with Baby's Berserk's self-titled debut album. Two guys and two girls from Amsterdam and Montreal called Baby's Berserk. Baby's Berserk is about taking the freedom to be who you want to be, about being comfortable. Having played in all-girl punk bands since the age of 14, the bands singer Lieselot is an expert on female empowerment. In the great tradition of Roxy Music, Throbbing Gristle, and Malcolm McLaren, Baby's Berserk is not just about the edgy music, but also about a very strong own visual style. They readily blend their sounds with underground fashion. Sonically designed for gritty rock venues as well as up-to-date edgy dance clubs, Mano's lush compositions smoothly intertwine with the highly associative lyrics written by Puggy and Lieselot. Poets and literary addicts may think they've just discovered the rock n' roll equivalents of Sylvia Plath, Kurt Vonnegut, and Allen Ginsberg. To tell you the truth: their wild guess is pretty accurate as the works by these greats lie scattered around the Baby's Berserk studio for inspiration. The band was born in a laboratory back in 2019. Tired of being in bands with unruly and unpredictable humans, Mano Hollestelle set out to create a group of high precision robots to create the post-punk sound he had in mind. His outdated technology of floppy disks and cassette tapes worked well to program the androids, until one day a '90s rave mixtape was mistakenly entered into his computer. House music is a feeling and the punk bots instantly got hooked on it upon hearing it for the first time. They could never be reset to factory settings again. Mano worked tirelessly with his androids, currently known by their humanoid names of Lieselot Elzinga, Puggy Beales, and Eva Wijnbergen, to fulfil his evil plan to make the rockers dance and the dancers rock. Baby's Berserk is the fiendish extension of this plot. Beware, the band's bass driven grooves and computerized beats have been known to cast a spell upon all within earshot. So, what do the songs on Baby's Berserk tell you? That it's totally fine to have lots of fun in life! To have a boyfriend as an accessory ("Accessories"), to get inspired by SpongeBob ("Dancing With The Fish") and to blend your spirits with mixers whenever the hell you feel like it ("Rum 'n' Kola").

Toy Tonics brings back the Kapote album What It Is -- ten dancefloor tracks originally released in 2019 -- now reworked, re-edited and with two new tracks, released as What It Is (2.0). House music, but with a heavy jazz-funk, brasil, lo-fi influence. A mood that evokes early Moodymann, Kerri Chandler or 1990s Paris stuff. When this album came out originally, it caught the attention of many great DJs -- DJ Harvey was playing "Jaas Func Haus" a lot at Pike in Ibiza, and Gerd Janson, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Kenny Dope and Blessed Madonna were filmed playing other tracks from the album. Kapote (Mathias Modica, also known as Munk) doesn't release much music -- he is mainly involved in the Toy Tonics label development, creative direction, and productions of other artists that release on Toy Tonics. Originally a piano and art student, he later discovered DJing, nightlife, and electronic music. Mathias aka Kapote aka Munk has produced and released records with artists like Peaches, James Muprhy and Nancy Whang (of LCD Soundsystem), The Rammellzee, and WhoMadeWho.

Toy Tonics welcome one of the US' absolute legends in the game on their roster -- Kai Alcé! One of the original masters of jazzy house, Kai is a prime example, someone who witnessed the genesis of Detroit's electronic musical landscape and strives to keep that spirit alive. Being of Haitian descent laid the foundation for his musical ear starting with his childhood in Queens, New York. Some of his earliest musical influences included his mother's penchant for soca music and the distinct Caribbean rhythms of his culture. An appreciation of jazz would be further guided by his father's expanding audiophile home system. During the 1970s the kindling of hip hop and the heyday of disco perked the ear of a young Kai while they were living in NYC. The Big Apple would remain a constant throughout his musical journey as the years went on, but it was the move to Michigan that ultimately shaped his artistic vision. On this five-track EP, Kai once again makes it all feel so easy! Deeply musical, yet also instantly effective on the dance floor, tracks like "New Life Livin" and "Slide It In" come with an ease that shows why he's shaped the game for decades.

Bárbara Boeing joined Toy Tonics. The Brazilian DJ selector and heavy addicted worldwide vinyl digger. Bárbara teamed up with Sam Ruffillo, the Italian producer, keyboarder, DJ. Sam helped her to shape three tracks. Dancefloor fillers that Bárbara basically did the way she needs them for her DJ sets. And the results are bangers. Inspired by people like DJ Raffa, Mr. Monday, Yello, MBG International Records -- she and Sam created three instrumentals that reflect three different shades of Bárbara's taste, "Baile Do Silêncio": Inspired by the '90s funk from Brazil and its high energy inside the dancefloors, "Baile Do Silêncio" was made to make people dance. "Brasiliana": Dreamy Italo house chords over some Latin percussion creates the intimist atmosphere of this deep and mysterious track. "Brigada": Hard to be categorized into one genre, this track serves a pinch of Balearic elements over a dancefloor-oriented House with some Kwaito and also Italo Disco references. Features Phil Mill. One remix by Esa Williams.

Dan Shake, Kaidi Tatham, Jamie 3:26, on Toy Tonics! Yes. Toy Tonics lead artist Cody Currie released his debut album on the Berlin label last year and now here come the remixes! Pure dancefloor joy is guaranteed with this release. The names speak for themselves. And they really made effective DJ weapons out of Cody's very organic sounding, warm, soul-driven jazzy house songs. Cody by now doesn't need a big introduction anymore. He is one of the "hot" names from London's new house scene (even if he lives in Berlin) and being the only one who has made a collabo with Eliza Rose created a certain buzz not just in UK (they recorded the tracks "Danger", "Moves", "Night Sky" released on Cody's debut album Lucas). This EP will make his album music more accessible for dancefloors. Also features remix by Sam Ruffillo & Kapote.

Toy Tonics presents a new producer team: Sound Support consists of two enthusiastic synth and house aficionados that everybody knows (in the scene): Lars Dales from Dam Swindle and Lorenz Rhode (keyboard wizard and producer genius). Together they are doing extremely groovy, jazz infected dance music that connects the good things of 1990ies house with the indie disco of the 2000s. Lars Dales and Lorenz Rhode connected through their mutual love for all things musically unusual. After years of having worked together on several projects, such as the Dam Swindle live show, they finally got around to making music together. The result has been nothing less than an avalanche of tracks, mostly made in four-day coffee fueled studio sessions in Lorenz' studio in Cologne. All reminding the big funk house tracks of the early 2000s. Yes, a lot of Daft Punk is here, a lot of NYC disco influences. Larry Levan and Laurent Garnier, DJ Harvey and Masters at Work... all influences on this record. After their first two Sound Support EPs on Prins Thomas' label, Internasjonal, they've ventured out to House of Disco and other labels with a wide array of immensely enjoyable synth heavy tracks. 2023 sees these two venture more into house territory with releases on AUS music and Toy Tonics, two labels that have cemented themselves deeply into the underground scene. In any case, it's clear that Sound Support have found its signature sound and there is much more of that to look forward to. Toy Tonics is the key label for the wildstyle house scene and Sound Support fit perfectly.

Toy Tonics brings back the Kapote album. Ten dancefloor tracks originally released 2019 on the What It Is album. Now reworked, re-edited, and with two new tracks. House music, but with a heavy jazz-funk, Brasil, lo-fi influence. A mood that reminds early Moodymann, Kerri Chandler, or 1990ies Paris stuff. Loft disco and indie house. When this album came out originally in 2019 it caught the attention of many great DJs. DJ Harvey was playing "Jaas Func Haus" a lot at Pike in Ibiza and Gerd Janson, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Kenny Dope, and Blessed Madonna were filmed playing other tracks from the album. Kapote doesn't release much music as he is mainly involved in the Toy Tonics label development, creative direction and is also in many productions of other artists that release on Toy Tonics. Originally a piano and art student, he later discovered DJing, nightlife, electronic music and by now is doing what he does with Toy Tonics with a couple of friends and like-minded producers. Kapote's real name is Mathias Modica and if you google this you will find out he has been doing music before Toy Tonics under the name of Munk. Doing another label called Gomma Records. Where he and some friends already created a little universe based on electronic music, street art, DIY culture, shirt design, underground exhibitions. Mathias aka Kapote aka Munk has produced and released records with artists like Peaches, James Murphy and Nancy Whang of LCD Soundsystem, The Rammellzee, and WhoMadeWho. This is the past. The future will be new Kapote stuff currently in the making with Cody Currie and Sam Ruffillo. Meanwhile check out What It Is (2nd Version).

Blessed Madonna, Pete Tong, Gerd Janson, Ash Lauryn... the list of great DJs playing and loving Sam Ruffillo's very special Italian disco music is long. With only three EPs on Toy Tonics, he might be the most talked about producer on the Berlin label (with Cody Currie and Coeo). One of his Italian disco songs form his last EP Italianissimo ("Chiamami Subito") made it into the high rotation playlist of the biggest Italian pop radio and is still growing in the international club underground. Now Sam comes with a new EP. And this EP shows his other side. Until now Sam has been known for his Italian organic disco songs (no samples, all instruments played live). But for his new Brooklyn Tapes EP the Italo-Sicilian DJ, producer and super styler Sam Ruffillo worked with a few American rappers and soul singers to create what a New York critic called "post digital soul house music." In fact these four songs are house and electronic funk -- but it's also rap music and R&B and disco. Played in a very modern way, musically colorful and complex and extremely groovy. Its dance music made by musicians -- not by DJs. And that makes a big difference. The melodic and harmonic elements are catchy and clever, the chord progressions are beautiful and the syncopated bass lines make you think about great bass play by maestros like Bootsy Collins or Marcus Miller (musicians know them!) It's a rap house and disco soul EP and it features a well-known Canadian rapper (who decided to stay anonymous) as well as Edson Sean, soul singer and composer from New York. For Toy Tonics this is one more step in the evolution of high-quality dancefloor music for the future. Combining house with soul, jazz with four-to-the-floor beats, disco with indie, the Toy Tonics crew is working hard on new forms of quality dance music. And finding the most interesting new artists. With Sam Ruffillo, and the other American artists on Toy Tonics (NY singer Kosmo Kint, American jazz keyboardist Joel Holmes...) the label is bringing together what's internationally new in the dance world -- with no borders and no limits... Remixes for this EP by some of Sam's fans: Ash Lauryn from Detroit, Eli Escobar from New York, and Art Of Tones from France.

Here comes a fat Toy Tonics remix package. Coeo made two club versions of this track originally by Toy Tonics head honcho Kapote -- featuring New York born, Berlin based Soul singer Kosmo Kint. Coeo's "Garage" version is a heavy booty shaker, quite different from their last release. This is very UK. You can hear that Coeo has been DJing a lot in the UK lately. Of course, the other one remix is killer too... You get what you know from a Coeo work. The Kapote remix package also includes a version by Detroit original hero Dez Andres. A sneaky dancefloor slammer that will get a lot of attention.

The 14-tracker will land via Berlin's Toy Tonics label and glides from disco to jazz, house, and funk and features key collaborations with the likes of Jitwam, Eliza Rose, Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange, and his close friends. After having met Mathias "Kapote" Modica, creative mind behind Germany's well respected Toy Tonics label three years ago, East London born Cody Currie understood Kapote and his international TT Crew have the perfect understanding for his talents and share the same visions and so Cody joined the TT crew and released three EPs with the German label. Now finally he steps up to present his highly anticipated debut album, Lucas. The roots of Cody's artistry runs deep, hailing from Leytonstone in East London by his father a fashion designer and his Spanish mother a music writer, it was inevitable that Cody would follow suit in the world of creativity. Currie's keen ear and penchant for retro disco licks, chopped keys, and broken beats have landed him also with one-off releases on other notable labels like Razor-N-Tape, Dan Shake's Shake Records. The past few years has found Cody in the midst of a fresh, unique buzz taking over Europe, predominantly in Berlin and London, as he bridges the gap between jazz and house music with his energetic DJ sets, talented instrumental skills and effortless swag. This debut album, like his EPs, represents the new essence of jazz burgeoning out of London's youth scene of today. Cody doesn't use any samples, only live instruments, vocals and great chord combinations, a nod towards his music school studies in London before moving over to Berlin. Cody comes from playing jazz piano and playing in bands and combines this real musician's attitude and knowledge with his skills as an electronic producer and extremely talented DJ/selector. On Lucas, Cody defines his work by enjoying the collaborative process with other talented artists such as Eliza Rose and Ziggy (Freedom Zeitgeist Energy Exchange), as well as some of Cody's close personal friends like Jitwam, Ally McMahon, Andreas Kon, and more. Currie comments on the album saying: "Lucas LP is a collection of tracks which I've either done myself around the world recording in different places, or collaborating with my friends. The music reflects my enjoyment of the musical process and I'd say it's inspired a lot by George Duke and Frank Zappa, the disco and funkier stuff from the '70s and '80s. Some of the tracks are quite deep and introspective, whilst other ones are more fun and silly like "That Stick"..." Also features MiK and Tino.

Germany is not known for soul music but some of the hottest disco artists of the 1970s and '80s were based in Germany. To be more precise in Munich. Donna Summer, Moroder, Faltermeyer, Boney M or Silver Convention who created the "string disco sound" came from Munich's wild disco scene in the 1970s. And that's the vibe you get with the new GOME guys. The 25 years old guys originally come from Munich. The have the Munich disco DNA. Which means: They feel the funk, they know about Soul music and good basslines, they know how to groove (not to bang) and they have that slight sense of irony and easiness you need to make good disco music. (Some say the dark days of Berlin techno are over after Covid, Munich disco is the opposite.) GOME are a live act. Their disco is played on several drum machines, keyboards, sequencers and microphone. Their first EP got massive props from the likes of Laurent Garnier ("Love love love for this EP") and other more funk-oriented house DJs. The new one goes further. It's '80s disco. The first track "Teach You" was produced in the raw style of early Prince or the legendary Sexual Harrassment. A pumping bassline, driving 808 beats and funky rap vocals is the only thing you need. Erobique, King of German disco and member of the band International Pony (DJ Koze and Cosmic DJ) did a stripped-down remix showing that less is more.

This is a fat package of remixes. David Morales, Kai Alce, Atjazz, The Checkup. All reworked songs from the upcoming debut album of Kosmo Kint. Toy Tonics discovered Kosmo Kint in 2019 when looking for a singer to work with. Kosmo is a soul vocalist raised in New York. He lives in Berlin since a few years, after studying opera singing in Vienna and was looking for the right crew to hook up in Berlin. Toy Tonics was perfect. Now, after four collaborations on songs of different Toy Tonics artists (Kapote, Rhode & Brown, Mangabey, Sam Ruffilo) Kosmo is ready for a solo album. The album will eventually come out, the music has a fresh up-tempo neo soul vibe. But these four remixes are made to introduce the voice of Kosmo. Four fat remixes.

Felipe Gordon comes back to Toy Tonics. The Colombian musician, producer, and DJ has been part of the TT label crew since 2017 when he released his debut Teusaquillo EP. Since then, Felipe has made a huge career. He made a second EP for Toy Tonics (Wait On Me, 2020) he now releases on labels such as Heist Recordings, Kai Alce's NDATL, Clone Royal Oak, Phonica Records, Shall Not Fade, and was featured on Cinthie's DJ Kicks. With his third EP on Toy Tonics, Felipe now takes a next big step in his artistic development. He's been working for some months now on a new and organic path, a different way of vocal house. He started working with a talented young Colombian singer called Bob The Egoist AKA Daniel Pardo. Bob is a young Berklee degree student with a deep and emotional voice, an amazing knowledge about the classic soul and RnB and a clever and enthusiastic way of writing chord progressions, you will hear his name more often than you can imagine in the next coming months. This new Felipe Gordon EP has a more organic driven feel, and is definitely a vocal house record. With a lot of classic 1990s house feel, but still not sounding retro at all. It has a slight futuristic feel. Besides the great vocal ideas, the tracks are based on amazing chord progressions that remind the jazz-funk music from the early 1970s. Rhodes and clavinets, wah-wahs and a nasty, soulful atmosphere. Felipe did some heavenly synth work, creating music with a deep yet funky character -- always punchy and analog. Felipe's production style seems to be exploring new grounds. The music was recorded in two weeks only in December 2021. And probably that's one of the reasons why these tracks don't sound over-produced. The instant, rolling feel gives the songs its special character. Features Toro Moratto and Marc Bianco.

Who is Magou? All Toy Tonics knows is that, two years ago, the label released a 12" EP that created a little buzz on this artist without a face and social media. The only clue is that Magou is allegedly a mysterious side-project by an otherwise well-known Italian music maker, producer, and DJ. Who cares about fame? This one is all about the music, so Toy Tonics is now back with a sassy double-LP release of Magou's full album. Who Is Magou? contains eight killers and no fillers, all based on elements of disco vibes, acid, synthpop, new wave, electro boogie, deep house blended in a classy, understated manner which supersedes the cheese and sleaze typically associated with Italo disco or the "anything goes" pastiche of postmodern retromania. Just listen to "Sample Dream": a rolling groove monster that creates deep euphoria on dancers for sure. Also "Round Round" is a maybe odd but sharp DJ tool: a quirky Balearic synth-funk trip -- that sort of old school track that record collectors would be killing for, had it been released in 1984. "Pas Jolie" goes even further and probably as fat as disco can get: a beefy chunk of synth house/Italo dance fusion, powered by a throbbing, relentless bass line. Then, on "Dejarte" Magou goes deeper in the feeling with this hazier slab of dub disco, with a hint of Mediterranean flavor and Balearic beat. With "Heather's Body" Magou plays with early '80s fitness disco-boogie aesthetic, absorbed during endless Sunday afternoons spent in front of brash Italian TV revues. "Eco" is dedicated to the renowned Italian semiologist, popular cultural critic and novelist, Umberto Eco. The author is featured on an acid disco-funk number and Umberto's chopped voiceover appear to be lecturing dancer with a witty commentary. While the 1980s Italo was often quite cheesy and referencing shallow popular culture tropes, Magou nobilitates the dancefloor by "showcasing" some 20th century intellectuals, such as Eco and Borges. In fact, Magou dedicates a whole track to Argentinian writer Jorge Luis Borges -- the funkiest cut in the album, with bouncing bass licks and endless grooving joy. Italian maestro Ennio Morricone is given an homage on the final track: a great outro which combines city pop atmosphere, un-acid TB-303 sequences, and a highly cinematic children choir, reminiscent of Italian Giallo movies.

It's Italian time! Sam Ruffillo is back. Sicilian producer doing smooth Balearic disco with Italian vocals. The direction is clear: Sam Ruffillo's music brings you back into the Italian riviera and the hippy days of Ibiza in the late 1970s. Even his way of production is similar to how the early days disco producers in Italia used to work: No samples needed. Instead, a few guest musicians come to jam over Sam's beats in his Italian studio space. Guitar, bass, percussion. Sam later makes the production and added keyboard solos and put together the vibes into what is this new EP. The girl voice comes from Ninfa. It's the classic studio story: Ninfa is a singer and DJ and friend of Sam. She was hanging at the studio while Sam was finishing these tracks. She stated to sing along... the words came up spontaneously... so they decided to record her and finally decided to keep them. The vibe was too good. Why talk English if you can do it better: in Italian! This is second for Toy Tonics after his Sport House EP. Sam also appeared on the solo record of Joel Holmes on Toy Tonics. Together with Kapote Modica he co-produced and made the beats on that record. Now, Sam is back with this pure Italian EP. Inclusive remixes by new German artists Gome and Italian Musemeci -- known to many from his fabulous Italo-trance releases on Diynamic Records.

Here comes the second Toy Tonics EP by Joel Holmes & Cody Currie. The new Berlin based duo that works on a fresh musical style that combines jazz, broken beats, soul and NY house. Joel, the American jazz pianist, is a former member of Roy Hargrove's Grammy-winning jazz-hop band and member of Carl Craig's synthesizer ensemble. Joel is living in Berlin now, where he is involved in the new vibrant Neo-Jazz scene. (Yes! Berlin used to be a techno city, but it's becoming a jazz town now!) In Berlin, Joel throws monthly jam sessions (the Urban Base Jam) where the creme de la creme of Berlins ex-pad jazz musicians meets up. Crazy things can happen here. Like when Erykah Badu played Berlin in 2019 and her complete band came to jam at Joel's session after their gig. Joel teamed up with Cody Currie: 24-year-old London born talent, who already made waves in the house scene. Cody is known as a stylized producer, with a unique recognizable sound. Much of his craft was homed in studying a bachelors in music in London. His most known work by now might be a jazzy reinvention of "Devils Shoestring". With his new works Cody is coming away from sampling, working only with live instrumentation. Joel & Cody both live in Berlin now where they met Toy Tonics head honcho Mathias "Kapote" Modica. And when they met there was a vibe instantly. All three have their roots in jazz music and share similar ideas about how dance-music should evolve in 2020.

Felipe Gordon from Bogota is one of the names right now in the jazz-inflected house and broken beat scene that is growing so much these days. This is second EP on Toy Tonics and it's a step forward for him musically; he started to include more vocals and worked with Colombian vocalist Paula Pedraza. Gordon's music is special; with his background as a Colombian (with that great heritage of musicianship that the country has) and as an indie rock musician (he used to play in bands for years), he has his very own vibe. His tracks have much more groove than lot of the sample-based stuff one can hear currently, and his production style is more variable and musically interesting than lots of other stuff. Check these four new tracks. Especially the second, which adds some freshness to the current disco vibe, bringing in a punk/funk bassline that could have been made in 2005 from disco-not- disco artists like Chicken Lips, Headman, or Playgroup. This is post-90s revival music.

2022 repress. New York vocalist Kosmo Kint joined the Toy Tonics crew. Born in Trinidad and raised in New York City, Kosmo has been part of the recent Brooklyn scene, singing in several projects in NYC before moving to Berlin two years ago. To find like-minded people to create new lyrics driven dance music. In Berlin he teamed up with the Toy Tonics boys and now TT boss Kapote and the crew are working with him in Berlin Kreuzberg to find a new R&B and disco influenced style of electronic dance music. The first release is a collabo between French talent Mangabey and Kosmo Kint, produced by Kapote. The two songs have a chilled L.A. G funk vibe that makes you think about certain Dr. Dre productions from the '90s combined with some broken beats and four-to-the-floor house vibes. The song might remember some French touch tracks too and some might think about that West London early 2000 "Dego" vibe maybe. Anyway, its new and there is not a name yet for that style.

Phenomenal Handclap Band is back on Toy Tonics with remixes by Superpitcher and Ray Mang. The New York indie disco crew delivers their third song to the Berlin dancefloor label. Their last two Toy Tonics singles, Judge Not (TOYT 081EP, 2018) and Jail (TOYT 093EP, 2019), have already made big waves with heavy rotations in the sets of people like DJ Harvey, Artwork, Gilles Peterson, Keinemusik, and many others. Now they are back with another surefire smash: "Remain Silent". The Phenomenal Handclap Band from New York has been known for a couple of funk-driven releases before, but also for supporting or collaborating with such giants as Bryan Ferry, Marcos Valle, and Nile Rodgers & Chic. The band, based around multi-instrumentalist and producer Daniel Collás, is releasing this new single in advance of their new album on Toy Tonics in 2020. This is just a warm up!

More new members in the Toy Tonics family: Joel Holmes and Cody Currie joined the Berlin crew. They will release a couple of EPs. You might know Joel Holmes: American jazz pianist and keyboard player who has been member of Roy Hargrove's legendary Grammy-nominated band, but also is part of Carl Craig's synthesizer ensemble. Joel is living in Berlin now, where he is involved in the new vibrant neo-jazz scene. (Yes! Berlin used to be a Techno city, but it's becoming kind of a jazz town now!) In Berlin Joel throws monthly jam sessions (the Urban Base Jam) where the creme de la creme of Berlin ex-pad jazz musicians meet up. Americans, Europeans... Crazy things can happen here. Like when Erykah Badu played Berlin in 2019 and her complete band came to jam at Joel's session after their gig. Joel now takes the next step: he teamed up with Cody Currie: 24-year-old London born talent, who already made some waves in the house scene. Cody is known as a stylized producer, with a unique recognizable sound. Much of his craft was owned in studying a bachelors in music in London. His most known work by now might be a jazzy reinvention of "Devils Shoestring" with over half-a-million plays on SoundCloud and YouTube. With his new works Cody is coming away from sampling, working only with live instrumentation. Joel & Cody both live in Berlin now where they met Toy Tonics head honcho Mathias "Kapote" Modica. And when they met there was a vibe. All three have their roots in jazz music share similar ideas about how dance music should evolve and could sound in 2020. (In fact Kapote Modica studied jazz piano, too and has been playing in bands before getting into electronic music). Joel & Cody are working in a great Berlin basement studio, at Cody's home. Working on a new way of combining jazz-funk with real musicianship, MPC grooves and live instruments to get a new, fresh approach on dance music.
