Francis Harris's exquisite Scissor And Thread showcases Tokyo's Tomi Chair, aka Tominori Hosoya. The DJ and producer goes by both names. The original version of title track is a deep and thoughtful dancefloor number. The "Dream Version" strips the track down to its pads and atmospheres. "Heat Exhaustion" is an exceptionally beautiful, beatless piece that drifts through drone-y pads and occasional fragments of minor key melody. Using the Tominori Hosoya moniker, "We Are Here" is another powerfully restrained piece that merges woody percussion with low key pads. Francis Harris adds his touch to "Heat Exhaustion" with his respectful "Reform" version.

Trivial Occupations is the third LP released under Francis Harris's own name and continues in the traditions of Leland (SAT 005LP, 2012) and Minutes of Sleep (SAT 015LP, 2014). Here Harris dives deep into a new sound palette, bringing the listener on a journey through various states over the almost one hour run time. The album was made over the course of four years in various studios with an array of notable players, bringing a diversity of perspectives and approaches encompassed within Harris's stunning artistic studio approach. It was mixed at Jack White's Third Man Studios with the help of long-time collaborator and friend, Bill Skibbe. It's an album that is easy to get lost in its structure suggesting no real beginning or end. Listening to it on loop offers the listener a chance to be fully immersed in the rich, melancholic tonalities of Harris's sound universe. Guest musicians include Dave Harrington ((One half of Darkside with Nicolas Jaar) guitar, bass), Will Shore (vibraphone), Greg Paulus ((No Regular Play), trumpet)), Emil Abramyan (cello), Léah Lazonick (piano), Genevieve Marentette (vocals), Rob Reddy (tenor sax), and Kaïssa (vocals).

Francis Harris's Scissor & Thread offers another exercise in subtlety and restraint by the emerging talents of Nadia Khan. "In Gleam" is a beautifully evocative drift into ambient textures -- rising pads and occasion bass tones combine to set an exquisite scene. "Local Visit" is a collaboration with label boss Francis Harris and features submerged rhythm and textures. "Restless" sees Alex Albrecht, aka MelquÃades, provide the "Last Bells Remix". "Sorting Through" finds its groove early, a deadened kick unfolds into an urgent percussion creating a thick atmosphere of melancholia. "Sunburnt" ends the EP with dreamy, smudged tones, and warm pads.

Scissor & Thread present a collaboration between label boss Francis Harris and DJ Aakmael. Aakmael has built a reputation for some of the deepest, rawest house music sounds coming out of the US, releasing well-received tracks on a variety of labels. Aakmael and Harris cook up an intoxicating vibe across this five-track EP. Aakmael's "Deep Muzik" is a blend of skittering drums, a shuffling groove, deep keys, and chords. On the B side, Frank joins Aakmael for "Mercy Of Means", slipping into an easy, mid-tempo groove before Frank's "Part Song" also hones in on the subtle deep grooves.

Francis Harris is one of the most interesting figures on the American electronic music circuit and beyond. His output has gone from tightly-wound tech house cuts as Adultnapper in the early days, sublime deep house as Frank & Tony, intricate and expressive musical journeys as evident in his two solo-albums Leland (2012) and Minutes Of Sleep (2014), and ambient shoegaze with two Aris Kindt albums, co-produced with Gabe Hedrick. Most recently Harris branched out with a new label -- Kingdoms -- a home for his love of a more adventurous sound. Up until now his most notable milestones remain the two solo-albums Leland (2012) and Minutes Of Sleep (2014) who became essential albums of the genre. Both albums have been out of print for a long-time and due to public demand, Scissor & Thread present new vinyl editions of both albums. Carefully restored from original masters and artwork the albums now appear in gatefold-sleeves. Leland spans over three vinyl discs, just like the sold-out original. Leland features Danish vocalist Gry on three tracks including "Lostfound", the first single and video which was remixed by Mathew Herbert. Also featured throughout are Emil Abramyan, whose poignant performance on cello evokes comparison to Arthur Russell, and Greg Paulus (No Regular Play, Matthew Dear Band), whose improvisational free jazz inspired trumpet accents converse thoughtfully with Harris's own tonal melodies performed on piano and guitar. Determined to produce electronic music with warmth and true dynamic range, Harris recorded and mixed Leland with Jordan Lieb on an analog SSL and then enlisted legendary engineer Joe Lambert to master the project. Originally released in 2012. Gatefold sleeve; includes download code.

Minutes Of Sleep is a beautiful, delicately fractured and crystalline electronic tribute to the more emotional side of Francis Harris's production talent. Features a Terre Thaemlitz remix to wrap up this quite beguiling release. Having moved even further from the dancefloor, Harris has succeeded in creating a work that sounds like little else, its rich ambience even surpassing the melancholy of even Leland. But it's no downer: featuring Gry Bagøien on vocals and No Regular Play's Greg Paulus on trumpet (both of whom appeared on Leland), along with Emil Abramyan on cello, Minutes Of Sleep is an exquisite, lovingly rendered accomplishment, defined as much by grace as by sadness. Originally released in 2014. Gatefold sleeve; includes download code. "One of the finest electronic LPs of the year." --Inverted Audio

Melbourne-based Alexander Albrecht presents his solo debut EP following on from the Tidal River album he released as part of the Albrecht La'Brooy duo. Title track "Blue Caves" is built around lush field recordings and fragments of melody developing out of the ether. "Morning Breeze" features hand-played percussion backing wistful, emotive piano sketches. Francis Harris provides a more dancefloor aimed take on the track for his Re-form version.

Francis Harris presents his first solo single since the release of Minutes Of Sleep (2015). "More We Cannot Do" feels submerged in a warm amniotic fluid, with a thick subby bassline which provides much of the groove and skittering percussion and vibraphone on top. "Minor Forms" emerges from a subtly distant place that inhabits a melancholic, beautifully evocative space. Berlin-based Uruguayan producer Valentino Mora offers two exquisite reworks of "Minor Forms". The "Underwater Rephrase" version shimmers and shakes and has a propulsive kick. The "Cosmic Trans Rephrase" sees a bubbling bass pulse anchor the track while pads drift in-and-out.

Scissor & Thread ramp up the heat with the debut release by Virginia's deep house don, DJ Aakmael. "Take It Back" wastes no time with its hard-hitting kick and springy bass holding court. "What Iz Deep House" is a lesson for those who don't know what true deep house is -- woozy, edgy chords take the spotlight alongside a slurring, dissociated voice. The reverb-laden pads and piano chord stabs of "Sands" submerges the floor in pelagic atmosphere. Frank & Tony take things even deeper with their late night "Breakaway Dub", applying their signature bass line touch and hi-hat shuffle.

Label bosses Frank And Tony return to Scissor & Thread with Odes, their strongest productions to date. "Procession" takes no time demonstrating the duo's keen ability to craft undeniable dancefloor vibes, with a hypnotic percussive groove that's sure to turn heads. "Odes" epitomizes the Frank And Tony sound with an early morning nostalgia and a nod to Detroit. "This Time" sees a collaboration with Darand Land, combining the dancefloor drive of the duo's sound with the intricate melodies synonymous with Land's sound. "Surface Prelude" sees a raw, but deep warehouse atmosphere reminiscent of early '90s house.

DaRand Land spreads out and shows off his unique brand of euphoric and uplifting deep house on his debut EP for Scissor & Thread, Discover You. The title track is classic DaRand Land, with bright piano chords, buzzing organs and a thick Chicago house bassline. Frank & Tony apply their signature style onto the former track, adding a chunkier kick with bright-as-day claps and hi-hats. Next is the atmospheric, peak-time Detroit house cut, "Souls Awash". Closing the EP is "Marcela's Sense", a blissed-out, head down late-night affair - cosmic pads swirl around glistening keys and repressed organ chords.

Frank & Tony present their third release of 2016, Harmonium EP. Toms and effervescent drum patterning get things started on "Serenade". Swirling pads, alongside a driving two-note bass, lay the groundwork before siren-like synths call out. "Hardrian" takes the tempo down and conjures basement rave vibes with its propelling bass line and cavernous pads. The title cut takes things into open-air - Airy pads and a buoyant bass carry the track and the drum patterning further lightens the tone. The duo take on John Beltran's classic "Gutaris Breeze (6000km To Amsterdam)" from his 1996 album, Ten Days of Blue.

Villete presents their deep house stunner, Girl Next Door. The A-side opens with the swelling pads and earnest hi-hat of "Dreams". A brassy synth envelops the listener into the track's warm embrace as layers of percussion skitter in-and-out of focus. "September" takes a turn for the cerebral with its skipping hi-hats and airy pads. Villete's title cut, dials back the BPM, but keeps the energy high. Closing with the murky drum tones of "Rillia" - droning pads, delicate claps, and a shy, skittering shaker keep things bubbling and light above thick-as-molasses kicks. Deep house maestro DaRand Land remixes "Rillia".

Frank And Tony present another four track summer stomper, Under The Jaguar Sun. "Under The Jaguar Sun" is a rollicking deep house number - a bouncing bass, crisp hi-hats, yearning pads and shimmering bells. The edit of Solo Andata's "A Ballet of Hands" is a whirling dervish of delicate music boxes, bowed guitars and distant horns weaving in-and-out of a skipping drum pattern. The double bass of "Difficult Loves" keeps things going as introspective pads shimmer. The Latin vibes of "Sargasso" has crisp tambourine, dense kicks and a deep bass line.

Rosas Nievas presents Going Away Soon. On the A-side, the bombastic opener, wastes no time getting its feet moving with charged up percussion, guitar licks, and playful sampling. "Nearly Lost You, Though" sees Nievas pair up with the singer Poppy Roberts on an emotional house jam primed for a peak time lovers rave . The B-side starts with "Roses are Dead, Violets are Blue," a hypnotic rhythm cycle flanked by a powerful bass line a reverb-laden piano. The closer, "Edge of Keys", continues the shuffling rhythmic patterning of the latter track, but finishes the EP on a gentle tone.

Frank and Tony deliver four prime cuts aimed squarely at the dancefloor. Vinyl-only opener "Ebreo" places silky smooth bass over a bed of soft, swirling percussion highlighted by a pitched-down steel drum. The "Breakaway Edit" of Donato Wharton's "Absentia," first heard on Frank and Tony's acclaimed Resident Advisor podcast, loops brittle bits of the original's hushed ambient tones over a chunky kick and shuffling hi-hat to hypnotic effect. "Waiting Ground" evokes the sun-kissed euphoria of early-hour raves with its lush atmospherics and thick kick. "Pavane" flips this laid-back attitude, adding an in-your-face kick and propulsive pads.

Through dense layers of noise, brittle beats, found sounds, and a general haze, Francis Harris returns to his own Scissor & Thread imprint with the aid of frequent collaborator, and long-time friend, guitarist Gabe Hedrick, under the guise of Aris Kindt. Following Harris's 2014 sophomore solo album, Minutes of Sleep, (number-one in MOJO magazine's list of the 10 Best Electronica Albums of 2014), the duo's debut album, Floods, takes as its focus the late author W. G. Sebald's profound interpretation of Rembrandt's 1632 masterwork The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp in Sebald's acclaimed 1995 novel Die Ringe des Saturn: Eine englische Wallfahrt (The Rings of Saturn). Floods is a sonic journey into the heart of the body, a bold rejuvenation of the corpse of Adriaan Adriaanszoon (Aris Kindt), the figure in Rembrandt's painting. Written during span of over a year using an 808, a modular Eurorack, and two guitars, Floods was mixed at Key Club Recording Company in late August 2015 with engineer Bill Skibbe. The album charts new territory for both Harris and Hedrick, melding a long history with electronic music and youthful love for indie noise and weaving in and out of near-silence and sheer walls of sound with a gentle and constant heartbeat at its core. The dream-like murk of opener "Now Grey" sets the tone with thick pads, distant ghostly guitar work, and fragmented drums. On the title-track, dubby chords set the tone as subdued toms amble forward with a crackle of fire nearby; dense sounds echo and swirl around into a climactic frenzy. "Blue Sky Shoes" hypnotizes with its submerged strings and subaquatic patterning, as synths rain down. "Snowbird" builds into a repressed fury as a blizzard of toms bounces around a heavy layer of noise while a morose, longing string arrangement emerges from despair into an ethereal moment. "Every New Thing" dives deep again into murky waters with entrancing drums and warped guitar lines swirling around like sirens. "Embers," with its quiet demeanor, slowly builds to an enlightened peak, while the closing track, "Braids," generates a shoegaze fog of churning guitar work and dense noise as the sound of children swinging drifts in and out, as if trying desperately to recover a fragmented memory of lost time.
