Croatia's esteemed DJ/producer Petar Dundov returns to Belgium's Music Man label with Dalmatina/Once We Were Here EP. "Dalmatina" kicks things off, taking the listener on a nine-minute melodic trancelike journey that boasts a sublime evolving arrangement encompassing, a solid four-to-the-floor rhythm, intriguing percussive elements, and a distinctive arpeggiated synth melody. Next, the 13-minute, synth-laden "Once We Were Here" serves up a masterfully produced electronic tour-de-force comprising of, dancefloor-ready '80s-esque drum programming, a lush emotive chord progression, and a beautiful reverb-drenched guitar-tinged lead melody.

Croatia's Petar Dundov presents The Lattice, featuring a remix from Frank Wiedemann. "The Lattice" is an enchanting 10-minute hypnotic journey full of captivating, intertwined melodies accompanied by smooth slow-burning beats. "The idea for 'The Lattice' came into existence when I played a simple downward chord progression while experimenting with different rising and falling melodic patterns. This phenomenon - where harmony is reinforcing melody and vice versa - gave me the idea for the song title." says Dundov.

Petar Dundov's "Dancing Sun" sounds exactly like its title -- happy and uplifting -- but still with the signature melodic techno sound for which Croatia's number-one techno producer is known. Glasgow's Forever Sound, a favorite of the Music Man label since his 2013 debut on Horn Wax, appears on remix duties.

Single-sided reissue pressed on red transparent vinyl and limited to 300. Terence Fixmer's "Aktion Mekanik Theme," originally released on Music Man in 2003, was as much a landmark for techno as the Aktion Mekanik compilation (MM 021CD) was for EBM. "As an artist who's been pushing EBM sounds into the modernity of Techno it was a logical step to do the compilation back then," Fixmer says. "I wanted to show my influences as a Techno artist, as Detroit sounds weren't my roots at all, but classics by Front 242, Fad Gadget, Nitzer Ebb, Crash Course in Science, or Snowy Red."

Deetron's second album Music Over Matter (MM 040CD/LP), found Deetron in a unique, transitional phase. The vocal element of his music coming to the fore, with his second album he proves that there is no substitute for substance and skill, putting music firmly back in the frame is the message. For the new single "Love Song," Deetron calls on the vocal talents of oddball techno superstar Seth Troxler. Steve Bug brings his Traffic Signs alias back to life for the remix, and adds an instrumental version, too. Without a doubt, an irresistible package for any DJ.

Deetron's second album finds the artist in a unique, transitional phase. The vocal element of his music coming to the fore, with Music Over Matter he proves that there is no substitute for substance and skill, putting music firmly back in the frame is the message. A prismatic mosaic of vocal textures and expertly-crafted grooves, Music Over Matter takes flight through the bounds of Deetron's musical persona, working vocals in unexpected ways through the deepest, most colorful and penetrating moments. From cranked-up four-to-the-floor and voluminous deep house grooves, to dream-sequence synths, elegant drum-programming and powerful melodic signatures, there is not a single moment of this album that won't thrill those craving a hefty interjection. Yet as motley and satisfyingly eclectic as they come, each track of the album is connected through a deep vein of soulful musicality. Joining Deetron for the trip are old friends such as Ripperton and Cooly G, who lay the foundations for the album with their opening track "Thinking" -- glitchy, scratchy techno, which blends in perfectly with Deetron's collaboration with the inimitable, cosmic surfer Seth Troxler, with whom he throws down a golden gauntlet of pitch-bent synths and heightening fervor with their hypnotic "Love Song." Deetron's hit single with Hercules & Love Affair also features. Flipping genres so elegantly, Deetron teams up with Belgian vocalist Delvis for an old-school Motor City-influenced vocal number, which is followed by the beautifully smooth vocal talents of Ben Westbeech, who produce a perfect, melody-drenched house track, which will also be Deetron's forthcoming single. Deetron's collaboration with Fritz Kalkbrenner adds a seriously unique twist to the album, with rich vocals resonating over Deetron's orchestral soundtrack. Teaming up with Justin Chapman again for "Strange Things" with Simbad along for the ride results in a gorgeous slab of deep electronic. George Maple provides the perfect vocals for "Rescue" with her ethereal vocals washing over you in pure delight. Music Over Matter also features pure instrumental tracks by Deetron. From a producer, whose unrelenting passion is the mark of his music, Music Over Matter is a reflection of the vibrant landscape upon which he so fearlessly treads. A bold, panoramic stroke that will appeal to so many more than just the intrepid nomads of the underground.

4LP version comes in a beautiful, hand-drawn, heavyweight 4LP package, in a cross shape. Includes CD. Petar Dundov runs his own Neumatik studio in Zagreb where he works as a sound engineer as well as producing his own take on techno, ambient and electronica, much to the liking of respected artists such as Carl Craig, Sven Väth, and François K. The Croatian producer might be best-known as a producer of wondrous, melodically complex techno -- but as revealed on his first two albums Escapements (MM 031CD) and Ideas from the Pond (MM 037CD/LP), his ambitions and talents as a musician are considerably more expansive than simply servicing the dancefloor. Dundov's third LP, Sailing Off the Grid, expands on the lush, intricate synth explorations of his previous two releases, but sees him delve further still into those realms, invoking the spirit of classic ambient and synth-based music of decades gone by. While the album spans just eight tracks, each track clocks in at over seven minutes, and some almost double that length. Each is slow-burning, expansive, gradually unfolding to reveal more of itself and to develop its motifs and sentiments without the often hurried constraints of the dancefloor (or even more so, the radio). This is an album to be consumed in its entirety; not for those with short attention spans or iPod playlists on their mind. "Enter the Vortex" hypnotically seduces the listener into a hazy sort of submission as the album begins; a beat-less exercise in simplicity whose mood swells through a cascade of soaring pads and softly twinkling synths and whose tension never resolves itself. "Yesterday Is Tomorrow" revolves around an Italo-esque arpeggiated bassline, and is the album's first track to work around a simple 4/4 beat, a flurry of synths shining brightly and melting into oneness thanks to spacious reverbs and delays. "Moving" begins from a hushed, delicate melody to unfold into an expansive, rolling progressive number, spilling over with emotive flourishes and freestyles and incessant brooding bass. A solemn, slow '80s stadium rock style drum beat on "Spheres" brings the tempo down, allowing Dundov to explore more complex and intricate melodic interplay still, the acidic bassline and slowly morphing sorrowful melodies of "White Spring" making for a stark contrast next. The title-track is a throbbing, heady affair, which spares key changes and chord progression in favor of unrelenting, slow-burning arpeggios and tension over the course of a dreamy 13 minutes. "Sur la mer avec mon ami" drops the tempo once again to a sunset slumber, soaring pads and an array of soft keys and guitar licks gently caressing the laconic beat. It's left to "Cradle" to round off this engrossing collection with its sweeping soundscapes and almost Oriental undertones; a fittingly unhurried finale for an album that likes to take its time about things. As well as the glorious aesthetic of this record, it's clear that this third album is indebted to the greats of the synthesizer world. The album imparts a -- whisper it -- almost Balearic sensuality, with a real sense of humanity elicited from Dundov's array of machines by way of ever-changing melodies and patterns, giving the sense of a spontaneous, freestyle approach to synth playing and constructing tracks. If his first two albums unearthed his wider musical talents, Sailing Off the Grid is the one that sees him blossom into an incredibly accomplished and ever-more-intriguing producer.

Deetron is on a roll with a new EP ready. "Character" is techno as you can expect it from your Swiss friend; deep but uplifting, refined but powerful. The track comes in two different versions, with the "Beats" version being more stripped-down, obviously. "Can't Love You More" drives on a catchy vocal and goes more toward the (deep) house spectrum, but with a punchy kick. Class-A material as always from Deetron.

"Crave" was the first single from Deetron's forthcoming album on Music Man, featuring Hercules & Love Affair. Here's the second single, this time with Ovasoul7 on vocals -- the same brilliant vocalist that was also featured on Deetron's 2007 blinder "I Cling." The amazing original is backed up with remixes from George Fitzgerald and KiNK (vocal + dub mix). A serious contender for tune of the year.
