Psychedelic, progressive folk-rock masterpiece from 1971, recorded in London by John St. Field aka Jackie Leven (of Doll by Doll fame) but only released in Spain back at the time. Before becoming a cult singer/songwriter in the '90s, Scottish musician Jackie Leven debuted in the early '70s with Control, issued under the John St. Field pseudonym due to "problems with the forces of law and order." Recorded in London and helped by musicians from MAN and other friends (Phil Ryan, Juliet Lawson, Jesse Ballard, Joe Kucera...), the album featured a collection of wonderful songs written by Jackie after his experiences wandering away and taking copious amounts of LSD. Unlike previous reissues, this one features the complete tracklist in original running order and also a new insert with previously unseen photos/memorabilia and recollections from some of the musicians involved. Remastered sound with original artwork in gatefold sleeve. Insert with liner notes and rare photos/memorabilia.

Sabattis were an underground hard-rock band from New York formed in 1968 by Jim Marvin (guitar & lead vocals), Gary Culotta (keyboard and vocals), Larry Wegman (drums) and Rocky Kaler (bass). Influenced by bands like Deep Purple, Mountain, and Grand Funk, they gigged around town playing lot of psychedelic clubs and venues. In 1970, they recorded a demo with the intention of securing a record deal which never came. The demo tape was in fact a fully finished album recorded and engineered by a friend from the band, Mick Gauzaski, who despite using a homemade studio, managed to obtain a real pro sound. No wonder Mick is now a multiple winner Grammy award! The Sabattis demo remained unreleased until 2011 when Jargon Records discovered the tapes and put out a CD edition with the band involvement. So Guerssen is proud to present a new reissue of Warning In The Sky, remastered from the original tapes and including an insert with rare photos and liner notes by Klemen Breznikar (It's Psychedelic Baby). Sabbatis sound is powerful heavy-psych sound with swirling Hammond organ and hard guitar which brings to mind other obscure acts like Jungle.

LP version. One the Holy Grails of South American heavy progressive rock, originally released in 1973 by this Bolivian band. Influenced by hard-rock giants like Uriah Heep or Deep Purple, Wara (whose name translates to "Light of the Star" in the Aymara language) also added touches of their own Bolivian heritage to the mix, resulting in a pioneering work of fusion between prog/psych rock and Andean folklore. Raw fuzz-wah guitar, organ, occasional violin and flute, heavy drumming, passionate Spanish vocals a la Ian Gilan -- El Inca was originally pressed on black vinyl with very few copies on transparent green vinyl. Both editions are virtually impossible to find now. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of this legendary album, Guerssen's reissue comes with remastered sound. Originally released as a private cassette only release in 1974, this is the debut album of progressive folk-rock band Spriguns. Homemade, charming folk-rock with the lovely voice of Mandy Morton, 12-string guitars, dulcimer, mandolin, and fiddle. Fabulous covers of "Let No Man Steal Your Thyme", "Matty Groves" and more. Formed in the early '70s, Spriguns of Tolgus evolved from the folk duo of Mandy & Mike Morton and the scene centered around their Anchor Folk Club in Cambridge. In 1974, the band (Mike and Mandy plus Rick Thomas and Chris Russon) decided to produce a recording to raise funds for new equipment. Using a small tape recorder and mixing desk, Rowdy Dowdy Day was recorded live in the dining room at the band's rented house. A small number of cassettes were produced and subsequently sold at the Anchor Folk Club. With the original cassette impossible to find now, Guerssen is glad to present a new vinyl edition. First ever vinyl release with original artwork in hard cardboard sleeve. Remastered from the original master tapes. Includes insert with liner notes by Mandy Morton and photos.

Beyond rare private press album from 1974, a fantastic mix of progressive rock with acid-folk, spaced-out psychedelia and cool conceptual / soundtrack vibe. Pete Fine is a virtuoso acoustic and electric guitarist and also a self-taught composer and orchestrator. After playing with psychedelic hard-rock trio FLOW in the early '70s in New York, Pete, influenced by classical composers like Anton Bruckner, started to focus on his 12-string guitar, composing music in a symphonic style. On A Day Of Crystalline Thought was his first solo album, self-released in 1974 as a private, home-made edition of 100 copies, now impossible to find. It was recorded using classical/rock musicians plus a chamber orchestra from Harlem. It features 12-string guitars, electric guitars, timpani, string sections, French horns, flute, piano, organ, drums with early digital delays, female vocal harmonies. Includes digital download card.

UK psych-folk private press mega-rarity, originally released in 1975. Jack With A Feather was the first vinyl album (after the private cassette only release of Rowdy Dowdy Day) by Spriguns Of Tolgus, just before they shortened their name to Spriguns and signed to Decca, recording two classic progressive folk-rock albums. Recorded in a cottage in the middle of nowhere, the album offers mostly traditional songs with charming homemade atmosphere, psychedelic touches, male/female vocals (by Mandy Morton), acoustic/electric guitars, mandolin, dulcimer, and fiddle. One of the tracks, "Seamus The Showman", originally written by Tim Hart of Steeleye Span (future Spriguns producer), landed the band a deal with Decca Records. First ever official vinyl reissue. Original artwork in hard cardboard sleeve plus OBI. Sourced from the original master tapes. Includes insert with liner notes by Mandy Morton and photos.

Formed in Blackpool in the late '60s, Heavy Rain was a "heavy progressive blues" band who shared stage with big names like Hawkwind, Pink Fairies, and Caravan. In 1973, now reduced to a power-trio (Geoff Carter on lead guitar/vocals, Oggy Hargreaves on bass, and Bernie Worsley on drums), they went to London and registered an album which was never released at the time but a few metal acetates were made. Only one copy is actually known of this monster rarity. 100% underground psychedelic hard-rock with heavy distorted fuzz-wah guitars and delay/echo effects. Seven original songs plus a spaced out Pink Floyd cover. Comes with download card which includes three unreleased studio tracks from 1972.

The Flow was a psychedelic hard-rock power-trio formed in New York by Pete Fine, Monte Farber and Steve Starer. It was the early '70s in NYC, the pre-glam/punk/new wave days, when Flow (who rehearsed next room to a band called Wicked Lester, later known as KISS) decided to start playing music without limits, developing their musical horizons. Their sound was based on hard-rock and heavy-fuzz guitars but adding psych/experimental touches. In 1972 they self-released a private album, The Flow's Greatest Hits, featuring their own songs. This is now one of the mega rarities and holy grails of the first psychedelic era. First officially reissued by the Shadoks label in the early 2000s and out of print for many years, Guerssen presents a new deluxe reissue. Original artwork in hard cardboard sleeve plus OBI. Includes insert with liner notes and photos.

Magical UK folk-rock with psychedelic/West Coast influences. It was originally self-released by Mandy Morton in 1978, after the two Spriguns albums for Decca. "Magic Lady" was dedicated to Sandy Denny, who had just passed away that same year. It was available on black vinyl with a few copies (approximately 20) pressed on blue color, and both versions are very hard to find today. Terrific songwriting, superb musicianship and beautiful vocals. Recorded at Spaceward Studios, produced by Mike Kemp in conjunction with Mandy, mastered at Abbey Road and featuring guest appearances by Tim Hart (Steeleye Span) and Graeme Taylor (Gryphon, Albion Band). Original artwork in hard cardboard sleeve + OBI; sourced from the original masters; insert with liner notes by Mandy Morton and photos. RIYL: Sandy Denny, Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, Trees, Jefferson Airplane... "... one of the best things Mandy Morton did, perhaps the very best... " --Patrick Lundborg (Galactic Ramble) "... one of the most atmospheric releases in British rock-pop of the era. Indeed, this masterpiece is the equal of those electric folk classics from earlier in the decade, like Spirogyra, Fuchsia, Shelagh McDonald and Stone Angel..." --Ben Sumner

First ever band-sanctioned reissue of this legendary Pebbles garage-psych 45 from 1967. William Penn Fyve, aka William Penn & His Pals, were a regular presence on the early Bay Area scene, opening for the likes of Jefferson Airplane, Paul Revere & the Raiders, and Them. Their line-up included lead singer/organist Gregg Rolie, later of Santana/Journey. In 1966 they recorded their lone single, Swami/Blow My Mind, for the Thunderbird label. The A-side (written by guitar player Mike Shapiro and famous for being included on Pebbles-The Acid Gallery) is early acid-punk with fuzzed-out raga guitars and hilarious lyrics about a guru. The flipside is an energetic garage-punk number with swirling Vox organ and a fuzz rave up á la Yardbirds.

Prog-psych/acid-folk lost classic from 1969 by this short-lived London trio. Now lovingly reissued on vinyl with fantastic remastered sound and including insert with rare photos/memorabilia and detailed liner notes by Steve Krakow, aka Plastic Crimewave. Named after a Cannonball Adderley track, Synanthesia formed thanks to a Melody Maker ad placed in 1968 by guitarist/vibes/vocalist Dennis Homes, answered by Jim Fraser (who played sax, oboe, and flute) and Leslie Cook (an Incredible String Band fan on bongos, violin and mandolin). With their particular blend of folk, jazz, and psychedelia, the trio played all the key underground venues and clubs, sometimes alongside top acts like Floyd, King Crimson, or Fairport Convention. Their sole album was recorded at Sounds Technique studio in Chelsea (which was where Pink Floyd were recording their albums at the time) and subsequently released by RCA. The cover featured the trio climbed onto a tree at the same park where the Beatles filmed their "Strawberry Field" promo film. Despite the good reviews and the support of DJs like John Peel, the album was considered too far out and psychedelic and eventually flopped, only to be re-discovered several decades later by acid-folk fans and collectors. Original artwork in hard cardboard sleeve + OBI; insert with liner notes by Plastic Crimewave and rare photos/memorabilia. RIYL: Incredible String Band, Syd Barrett, Comus, Heron, King Crimson, Subway... One of the holy grails of heavy psychedelia, originally released in 1969 by this Canadian band. Basement garage-psych meets heavy rock. Echoing vocals, crashing drums, ultra-raw distorted guitar. Bent Wind formed in Toronto in 1969. Discovered by producer Merv Buchanan while they played at a 12-hourPop Festival in York, he signed them to his Trend label. A single was soon released, followed by the Sussex album in 1969. Titled after the street where the band had a rehearsal space in a building where local hippies and freaks hang out, Sussex was released housed in a cover designed by guitar player Gerry Ribas. According to band member Marty Roth, no more than 200 copies were pressed, making one the most sought-after psych albums ever. Original artwork in hard cardboard sleeve; remastered sound; insert with liner notes by Klemen Breznikar (It's Psychedelic Baby) and photos. "For intense guitar action I never tire of LPs like Bent Wind" --Paul Major. "One of the last gasps of garage-psychedelia" --Richie Unterberger (All Music Guide). "Monstrous heavy psych from Toronto. Great plodding songs and recorded-in-a-barn ambience" --Wayne Rogers (Twisted Village).

Orang-Utan were in fact a London based band called Hunter, featuring vocalist Terry "Nobby" Clarke (of psych-pop legends Jason Crest), guitar player Mick Clarke, drummer and songwriter Jeff Seopardi, and bass player Paul Roberts. They recorded their sole album in 1971 at DeLane Lea studios. In a bizarre twist of events, their producers/managers ran with the tapes to the US, where they placed the album on Bell Records under a new band name: Orang-Utan, without telling any of the band members. A lost classic of blazing, early hard rock with minor psychedelic hangover vibes, a twin-guitar attack, and waves of fuzz/wah, along with powerful vocals. Think Leaf Hound, Budgie, Bang, Sir Lord Baltimore, Hard Stuff... Legit reissue done in co-operation with the original band members. Insert with liner notes telling the bizarre story of the band for the first time, and rare photos; hard cardboard sleeve + OBI; includes download card. "Quintessentially British hard-rock, transforming the blues in a way American bands rarely did, and with a kind of vocal intensity that compares to Free, Humble Pie, et al" --Aaron Milenski (Galactic Ramble).

Originally released in 1971, the Fuchsia album is one of the best examples of British progressive and psychedelic folk-rock, full on inventive arrangements, and songwriting. Produced by David Hitchcock (Caravan, Mellow Candle). Here's a long overdue vinyl reissue. Fuchsia was formed by a group of Exeter University students. They were Tony Durant (previously of psych band Louise) on acoustic/electric guitars and vocals; Michael Day on bass and Michael Gregory on drums plus the three-piece classical ensemble of Vanessa Hall-Smith (violin, backing vocals); Janet Rogers (violin, backing vocals) and Madeleine Bland (cello, piano, harmonium, backing vocals). Signed to Pegasus Records (the "progressive" branch of B&C Records), Fuchsia recorded their self-titled album at Sound Techniques studio with producer David Hitchcock (Caravan, Mellow Candle, Genesis, Camel). The main inspiration for the album was Tony Durant's readings of Mervyn Peake's gothic novels such a Titus Groan and its fictional character Lady Fuchsia Groan. Like some of their contemporaries (Comus, Mellow Candle) Fuchsia only started gaining recognition in the following decades, thanks to fans of obscure psychedelic folk. Today, Tony Durant leads a new version of Fuchsia, still playing and recording. Newly remastered sound; original artwork in hard cardboard sleeve; Insert with liner notes and rare photos/memorabilia; repro of the rare promo insert. "Recommended to fans of bands like Spirogyra and String Driven Thing" --Aaron Milenski (Galactic Ramble)
