Destination Moon presents a reissue of Thelonious Monk's The Prophet, originally released in 1961. In 1954, during his first trip to Paris, the adventurous pianist and be-bop pioneer Thelonious Monk recorded a handful of songs for French radio, later issued as The Prophet. Unencumbered by bass, drums, or most other accompaniment, Monk gives you all we need in left-hand rhythms and right-hand melodies; "Round About Midnight" and "Reflections" show Monk's masterful command and there's a one-off take of "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes". Highlighting his capabilities in full, this is required listening for Monk fans and lovers of solo jazz piano.

Destination Moon present a reissue of Thelonious Monk's The Unique, originally released in 1956. Pioneering be-bopper and unorthodox pianist Thelonious Monk was largely underacknowledged for the role he played in changing jazz forever. The Unique Thelonious Monk, the second of his LPs for Riverside, was recorded in 1956 with bassist/cellist Oscar Pettiford, who Monk had bonded with in Coleman Hawkins' band, and the wildcard drummer, Art Blakey, pushing things farther into the realm of experimentation, despite the set being comprised of jazz standards. Thus, "Tea For Two" becomes a hard-bop romp and "Honeysuckle Rose" has lashings of outré diversions -- plenty of fun for all Monk devotees.

Destination Moon present a reissue of Dion's Runaround Sue, originally released in 1961. The son of a vaudeville entertainer, Dion DiMucci's debut 45, "The Chosen Few", was a local hit backed by the maudlin Timberelanes, prompting him to form the more authentic Belmonts with friends from his Bronx neighborhood. Numerous hits followed, including "A Teenager In Love" and "Where Or When", and despite his heroin addiction, solo work was even bigger, the million-seller, "Runaround Sue", topping the US pop charts in late 1961, followed by signature tune "The Wanderer". The resultant Runaround Sue LP is quintessential Dion, his strong tenor tackling a range of cover tunes, as well as inspired originals like "Lonely World", capturing the man at his confident best, approaching his peak period of stardom. Color vinyl.

Destination Moon present a reissue of Françoise Hardy's self-titled album, originally released in 1962. Françoise Hardy became an international sensation during the early 1960s through her albums on Disques Vogue, the French jazz label that then began showcasing chanson. She signed to the label at seventeen after answering a newspaper advertisement recruiting unknown singers while she was a freshman at the Sorbonne, the B-side of debut single, "Tous Les Garçons Et Les Filles", brought her to the forefront of the yé-yé movement, mixing chanson with Anglophone rock and pop, and paving the way for this debut LP, which was lauded by the likes of Bob Dylan and Mick Jagger. This first offering is still arguably her best -- grab it now to understand why! Clear vinyl.

Destination Moon present a reissue of Robert Mitchum's Calypso - Is Like So, originally released in 1957. When Harry Belfonte's Calypso became the first LP to sell over a million copies, it stimulated an unprecedented calypso craze stateside, with myriad musical and cultural repercussions. Of all the calypso oddities to appear in its wake, Robert Mitchum's Calypso - Is Like So is certainly the most curious, as well as the most enduring. On this debut LP as a singer, actor Mitchum tackles Sparrow's "Jean And Dinah", King Radio's "Not Me", Wilmouth Houdini's "Coconut Water", and other Trinidadian anthems with considerable aplomb, infusing his delivery with a faux Caribbean lilt that flatters, rather than mocks; a few Don Rae adaptations broaden the palette of this most peculiarly appealing picture. Color vinyl.

Destination Moon present a reissue of Rufus Thomas's Walking The Dog, originally released in 1963. Born in rural Mississippi and associated with Memphis, versatile entertainer Rufus Thomas is a legendary figure, having been a tap-dancer, comedian, and DJ before recording for Satellite in 1961 -- the label that soon became Stax. Thomas's improvised hit, "The Dog", led to immortal follow-up, "Walking The Dog", so massively popular that it became the centerpiece of his debut LP, an irresistible blend of funk and soul with lashings of Thomas's trademark humor. Whether with originals or standards like "Ya Ya" and "Land Of 1,000 Dances", Thomas keeps the action tight and in addition to both "Dog" hits, there is further instalment, "Can Your Monkey Do The Dog", co-penned with Stax's Steve Cropper. A killer set! Clear vinyl.
