The album St. John Green is the only release by the American band of the same name, and is regarded as a minor cult classic of 1960s psychedelia. It was released in 1968 by the small label Flick-disc. Released at the height of the flower power era, the record perfectly captures the musical and cultural atmosphere of the late 1960s. The album blends various elements typical of psychedelia with sonic experimentation, garage lysergic influences and a free-spirited approach to songwriting.

Stone Angel is the self-titled album by the English folk group Stone Angel, released in 1971 on Seashell record. The group hailed from the rural counties of Suffolk and Norfolk, and the album deeply reflects that setting: deeply rooted traditional English folk, but with a psychedelic touch typical of the era. Simple acoustic arrangements (guitar, dulcimer, female vocals), intimate and pastoral atmospheres, featuring ballads and ancient melodies, a slight "acid folk" vein, similar to bands such as Pentangle or Fairport Convention. A key feature is Barbara Burton's voice, delicate and almost ethereal, which helps to create a suspended, melancholic sound.

The Above Ground Sound of Jake Holmes is the debut album by American singer-songwriter Jake Holmes, released in 1967, and stands as a significant example of psychedelic folk-rock from the second half of the 1960s. The album has a minimalist and unusual sound: the songs are built primarily around vocals, two electric guitars and bass, with no drums, creating an intimate, ethereal and almost hypnotic atmosphere. It includes the original "Dazed and Confused" song, best known in the Led Zeppelin's version.

Reissue of the third album from Brazilian combo. Creatively visionary and groundbreaking on numerous terms, 1975's O Africanto dos Tincoãs (as the previous Os Tincoas album) revolutionized Brazilian music by harmonizing Afro-religious singing, heavenly vocal harmonies, and percussive rhythms derived from Candomblé traditions. Even though it was recorded during a time of political repression, the album remains gentle, rhythmic, and reflecting Afro-Brazilian syncretism and resonating with themes of suffering, exile, and hope.

The Common People are perhaps the greatest remaining enigma of the '60s US rock music. Their sole album has belatedly acclaimed as one of the most distinctive recordings of its time. Produced in 1969 by "Lord" Tim Hudson (The Seeds) and arranged by David Axelrod, it's a superb blend of garage rock and orchestrated psychedelia!

Vince Martin was a prominent member of the folk circle -- in New York Greenwich Village -- which included Fred Neil, Dino Valenti, Len Chandler, Richie Havens, and others. If the Jasmine don't get you..., Vince's 1969 solo debut, captures the essence of his music. Recorded by the legendary Nick Venet in Nashville with the same pool of musicians that Bob Dylan and Bergen White were using this is an essential folk-rock classic!

Weirdos, or so they said. A long-term psychological state. Music -- not merely in the underground -- has suffered from the disease, perhaps giving birth to illustrious actors, from Syd Barrett to Daniel Johnston, all the way thru Wild Man Fischer (produced by Frank Zappa!). Kit Ream was more than an outsider, he just released one single album in 1978, a private press which gathered enthusiastic comments from the psych folk aficionados. Hopefully labeled as a compelling mix of soft jazz and new-age hippy philosophy, this ultra-rare opus is finally back in print for the all outpatients out there!

First ultra-rare album from the cultish experimental jam band formed in 1967 in Orange County, released on Radish record, little more than a private press label. Incredible project guided by Phil Pearlman (later behind Relatively Clean Rivers). A hypnotic sound with a high degree of experimentation, underground psych and acid avant-garde music, often likened to The Velvet Underground -- but filtered through a distinctly West Coast lens.

Eternity's Children's self-titled album was released in 1968 on Capitol sublabel Tower Records, during the heyday of the hippie revolution. After touring with Strawberry Alarm Clock, the Seeds and the Blues Magoos, the band released their most successful single "Mrs. Bluebird" which reached #69 on the Billboard Hot 100. Their sunshine pop was clearly informed by west-coast influences and folk revivalist, but ended up offering a new take on the psychedelic revolution.

Mentioned on Julian Cope's essential guide Jap Rock Sampler, Food Brain released their debut album in 1970, gathering influences from prog, proto-hard and psychedelic music. By far a supergroup consisting of Shinki Chen (Speed, Glue and Shinki), Hiro Yanagida (Milk Time) and Hiro Tsunoda (Flied Egg), the band showed an incredible interplay on their nine instrumental pieces, generating a cult following aboard.

A generous and off-the-track psych-rock experiment, Space Hymns originally saw the light in 1971 on influential UK company Vertigo, home of the most forward-thinking prog bands of the time. Enlisting the pure genius of the future 10 CC Kevin Godley (drums, flute) and Lol Creme (lead guitar, synth), the band was led by esoteric frontman Ramases (aka Kimberly Barrington Frost). The vocalist had a vision in the mind to late sixties where the Egyptian Pharaoh informed him he was his new incarnation. Take a trip to the moon and back!

Featuring a young Don Henley (of future stars The Eagles) on drums, alternative-country band Shiloh formed while they were still at college in the late sixties. In 1969 they met Kenny Rogers, who encouraged them to go to Los Angeles to record their self-titled debut. Album highlights are found in three magnetic roots-rock numbers reminiscent of The Band: "Swamp River Country", "Left My Gal In The Mountains" and "Simple Little Down Home Rock & Roll Love Song For Rosie". While the three Henley-penned tracks -- "I'm Gone", "Same Old Story", "God Is Where You Find Him" -- would bear obvious resemblance to future Eagles material. A proto-Americana masterpiece finally resurfaced!

The summer of soul collides with the acid rock revolution in this 1969 opus originally licensed by MCA sub label UNI (roster of talented artists such as Strawberry Alarm Clock, Hugh Masekela and Fever Tree). The sole album by US power trio Fields is a majestic blues rock effort, arranged by cultish producer Gene Page (Blacula soundtrack, Aretha Franklin, Elton John, the Whispers, Gladys Knight, etc.). The short-lived Los Angeles band was clearly influenced by the likes of Cream and Vanilla Fudge and featured backing vocals from Motown/Northern Soul heroine Brenda Holloway, a clear sign of their eccentric vision.

Dive deep into the realms of psychedelic soul with the one and only The Moon! Born in the summer of love, the band debuted in 1968 with this first album Without Earth. Surrounded by a clear Magical Mystery Tour feel, the group covers two songs off Colours (another obscure American group) debut album. "Brother Lou's Love Colony" in particular has little sitar flourishes fulfilling the idea of a serious homage to the Liverpool four. The remaining ten tracks are all originals with the solid hard rock groove "Got To Be On My Way," a tune notable for its liquid distorted guitar.

The dawn of psychedelic rock in Mexico, ten tracks introducing a worldwide-phenomena in the realm of the South American memory. A fascinating voyage led by cultish band La Revolución De Emiliano Zapata and several other nuggets-style combos. Originally released in 1971 the compilation was aptly titled La Onda, referring to a broader cultural and political movement. La Onda Chicana grew rapidly in a few years, culminating in a two days "Mexican Woodstock" known as "Avándaro," which attracted 300,000 people in September 1971. Featuring La Revolucion De Emiliano Zapata, Tinta Blanca, Javier Batiz, Rosario, La Tribu, La Tribu, La Quinta Vision, Los Clicks, Division Del Norte, and Poly Y Cia.

Reissue of the Californian psychedelic band's only album released on Acta records in 1968. Their sound was influenced by early Rolling Stones and Yardbirds (not coincidentally, guitarist Randy Holden, later on also in Blue Cheer, was offered to replace Jeff Beck). Their name gained attention after their single "Mr. Pharmacist" was included in the famous Nuggets collection.

Blessed by producer Herbie Mann, who released their sole record in 1970 on his personal imprint Embryo, Brute Force were a singular jazz funk group, who filled the gap between heavy rhythm-and-blues and the jazz-rock revolution already professed by Miles Davis. The Herbie Mann connection was solidified by the presence of guitarist Sonny Sharrock -- who plays on the first half of the record -- at the time in the flutist supergroup. With the distinctive electric piano of Richard Daniel and brother Ted (a future key figure in New York downtown jazz scene) on trumpet the record still retains a fascinating mood.
