Since opening the 8MM Bar in 2002, Alex Konuk (aka Olli) has brought a sense of reverence to the DIY (Do-it-yourself) experimental music cultures of 1970s and ?80s New York, Washington DC, Köln and Berlin to the contemporary nightlife of Berlin. An oasis for touring bands, 8MM Bar has prided itself on an exceptional quality of booking in both live music acts as well as DJs. To further expand upon the concept, in 2006, Alex Konuk began releasing music and hosting events as 8MM Musik, first in the old Pfefferbank Club, and continued at the current Bassy Club as well as in the 8MM Bar itself. The series has a highly regarded reputation of bringing original and experimental rock bands of exceptional quality to Berlin, with no institutional support. This series continues to this day. The label has released music by The Blue Angel Lounge, Singapore Sling, December Sound, Jack November and most recently the up- and comers DYN based out of Berlin. It is no wonder that 8MM is regarded as the experimental, psych, post-punk epicenter of Berlin, both within the city and abroad.

8MM Musik present a reissue of The Blue Angel Lounge's self-titled debut, originally released in 2008. The story of The Blue Angel Lounge began in the post-industrial town of Hagen in Western Germany in 2006 when Nils Ottensmeyer and Dennis "Mel" Melster, both with abundant talent and little to do, began sculpting soundscapes. The band recorded and self-released their debut, The Blue Angel Lounge in 2008, and shortly thereafter caught the attention of 8MM Musik in Berlin. The band took their name from the club in New York City that in the 1960s offered Nico (Velvet Underground) her first live performances in America. Nico would remain an underlying influence on the band. Initially a six-piece darkly psychedelic outfit, with their second album Narcotica (8MM 011CD/LP, 2015), they began subtly introducing post-punk elements to their melodic songwriting, and the intensity of Nils O's vocal began to come to the forefront. Strangers to the mainstream, but revered by a steadily expanding fanbase around the world, the band have earned the respect of other groups such as Interpol, The Dandy Warhols, and A Place To Bury Strangers and have been invited to support them on tour.

Jawbones present their concept album High And Low And Low And High. "Jawbones was started by Leonard Kaage, in late 2014, as a result of performing with and for many other bands and projects such as: The Blue Angel Lounge, Tess Parks and Anton Newcombe, Tracy Bryant, and many more. Together with four other like-minded musicians, Jawbones have developed a unique personality and sound that hovers somewhere over the psychedelic scene in the late '60s but brought to a modern perspective. Jawbones have so far supported bands like The Underground Youth, The Warlocks, The Shivas, Holy Wave, and more. Their first single 'Rain' was released September 1st, 2016" --Psychedelic Baby Magazine, Sept 2016.

180 gram double LP version. Audiences didn't hear much from The Blue Angel Lounge after the band from Hagen, Germany, abruptly split up in July 2014 -- until a cryptic message appeared online in early 2016, reading "The Blue Angle Lounge. Double LP. In Times." As quickly as it appeared, the message disappeared again, but its claim is now confirmed. In Times 2006-2010 contains both carefully selected demos of The Blue Angel Lounge's three studio albums -- The Blue Angel Lounge (2008), Narcotica (8MM 011CD, 2010), and A Sea Of Trees (AUK 112CD/LP, 2014) -- and previously unreleased recordings, reflecting the band's coherent progression between 2006 and 2012 and capturing them at their peak. The collection takes its title from the song "In Times," which was originally composed during the Narcotica sessions in 2010 and previously appeared exclusively on the 10 Years 8MM Musik compilation in 2013 (8MM 016LP). It is unclear at the time of this release whether In Times marks the rebirth of one of Germany's best bands of the 2010s, but the collection does coincide with a string of acoustic shows in Europe by founding members Nils Ottensmeyer and Dennis Melster.

The Story of Radiate & Novocaine is the second album by Icelandic psych country outfit Gunman & the Holy Ghost, fronted by Hákon Aðalsteinsson, who resides in Berlin and doubles as guitarist for Tess Parks & Anton Newcombe. Recorded and co-produced with sound artist BJ Nilsen in various locations in Berlin over more than a year, the album collects misery-ballads of dark alternative country and tells tales of love and separation, inner demons, and the surreal aspects of human existence. Songwriters like Leonard Cohen and Nick Cave are underlying influences on these wonderful, smooth alt-country songs.

Singapore Sling is a darkly psychedelic band from Reykjavík, Iceland. They are inexplicable and elusive but remind one of drugged-out soul power bands like The Jesus and Mary Chain and My Bloody Valentine. Their debut album, The Curse of Singapore Sling, came out in 2002. Their leader is singer-songwriter and guitarist Henrik Björnsson, who is also known from the band Dead Skeletons. Perversity, Desperation and Death is their fourth album, originally released in 2009. "When nobody was making the music I wanted to hear, I decided to make it myself, instead of complaining and doing nothing. It was born out of love and hate. Love of various music from the past, mainly rock'n'roll, and hatred of the majority of the music around me. I had been making music for some years when I decided to form a band to play it live. That was for similar reasons. I named the band Singapore Sling (after the film by Nikolai Nikolaidis) shortly before our first show in the fall of 2000, which is officially when the band started. The first proper record, The Curse of Singapore Sling, we released in 2002. We named it 'The Curse of' because of bad luck and freaky incidents that surrounded the recording of the record. The curse went on and so did we. We've played all over the place and released a bunch of records with a bunch of different labels. . . . The love and the hatred goes on, so we go on. And on and on." --Björnsson

8MM Musik presents the self-titled debut LP by Berlin garage and psych-rock natives Dyn (pronounced "Dine"). The duo of multi-instrumentalists Tilman Kettner (drums, vocals) and Carl Heine (guitar, bass organ, vocals) teamed up with engineer and producer Fabien Lesiure (The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Dirty Beaches) to record the nine-song album in a manner true to the band's lo-fi/high intensity dynamic. Kettner pounds out the beat while belting out his lyrics about love, lust, and misadventure; Heine kicks out the guitar and bass riffs (playing both at the same time) while also providing backing vocals. During their time gigging throughout the formerly divided German capital city, Dyn have developed a charismatic blend of experimental garage-rock. They previously performed under the moniker Delta Love, and have shared stages with Mission of Burma, The Raveonettes, and King Khan and the Shrines.

While staying true to their Nico and Velvet Underground- inspired colors, broader timeless inspiration of new wave, post-punk, and shoegaze are accentuated throughout Blue Angel Lounge's release, Narcotica. The band present a strong balance between relatively up-tempo songs such as "Caught Crow" or "Delete My Ideals" and the atmospheric and psychedelic in tracks "I Will Never" and 'Son of the Ocean." Narcotica was self-produced with the assistance of Anton Newcombe (The Brian Jonestown Massacre). Mr. Newcombe can be heard singing backing vocals on "Delete My Ideals."
