Digitmovies, in collaboration with the Sugar Group, issue on CD Francesco De Masi's complete original soundtrack, in full stereo, for the movie Maciste L'eroe Più Grande Del Mondo (aka "Goliath And The Sins Of Babylon"). Directed in 1963 by Michele Lupo and starring Mark Forest, Giuliano Gemma, José Greci, Erno Crista, and Livio Lorenzon. Each year the defeated kingdom of Udor, must sacrifice 24 virgins to the gods of Cafaus, the barbaric rival town. Maciste (Forest) gets into town and the girls are dragged to sacrifice by order of the tyrant of Cafaus. As he can't bear to stand by and watch the vile operation, the hero intervenes. This is the beginning of a series of adventures which will conclude with a return to justice. At that time, C.A.M. issued a 33rpm with twenty selections, reprinted in stereo on CD in 1993. For Digitmovies' CD project they used the stereo master tapes of the original session that allowed to discover thirteen new tracks. Francesco De Masi has composed a varied symphonic score featuring an epic march motif introduced in the main titles, alternated with a romantic love theme and several dramatic as well as mysterious battle themes. For the character of the dwarf, De Masi has written a funny theme in contrast with the glorious atmosphere of the plot. Among the many new tracks, Digitmovies can find an interesting alternate take without the eardrums of the main titles which was not used in the film. This CD is a necessary rescue and preservation in honor of the great musical art of Francesco De Masi.
