Reissue of the 1976 historic collaboration between producer instrumentalist Augustus Pablo and dub engineer King Tubby.
"If you had to pick one album that best represents the pinnacle of the art of dub, you'd cull the candidates down pretty quickly to ten or 12, and it would get very difficult after that. Few would fault you for ending up with this one, though, which stands as perhaps the finest collaboration between two of instrumental reggae's leading lights: producer and melodica player Augustus Pablo and legendary dub pioneer King Tubby. Among other gems, this album offers its title track -- a dub version of Jacob Miller's 'Baby I Love You So'-- which is widely regarded as the finest example of dub ever recorded. But the rest of the album is hardly less impressive. 'Each One Dub', another cut on a Jacob Miller rhythm, possesses the same dark and mystical ambience, if not quite the same emotional energy, as 'King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown,' and the version of the epochal 'Satta Massaganna' that closes the album is another solid winner. Pablo's trademark 'Far East' sound (characterized by minor keys and prominent melodica lines) is predominant throughout, and is treated with care and grace by King Tubby, who has rarely sounded more inspired in his studio manipulations than he does here. Absolutely essential." --Rick Anderson, All Music

Horace Swaby, known as Augustus Pablo, was a Jamaican roots reggae and dub record producer, melodica player, and keyboardist. In addition to popularizing the use of melodica in reggae music he also wrote and produced some of the most well-known and appreciated dub and instrumental reggae records of the 1970s and '80s. This fiery set featuring Augustus Pablo with his High Times Band was recorded live at the Greek Theater in Berkeley, California on October 5, 1984 to an appreciative audience of hippies and heads. Radiation Roots presents this beautifully packaged and mastered live roots reggae/dub classic. Originally released in 2014 on Cleopatra. Limited edition yellow vinyl; Edition of 500.

2017 cardboard sleeve edition of Augustus Pablo's Ital Dub, originally released in 1975. This is Augustus Pablo's first collaboration with King Tubby. "Navigating Pablo's back catalogue is a difficult task, since he got his start as an un-credited session player in the late 1960s, mostly working as a keyboardist. Several early singles credited to Augustus Pablo actually featured the work of other players, as the name was randomly assigned by producer Herman Chin-Loy, who first recorded Pablo's melodica tracks. There are also albums bearing his name that feature less-talented imposters. But have no fear when you pick up Ital Dub, a 1974 album produced by Tommy Cowan; it is the real deal, featuring Pablo's cool melodica over some of the best works Cowan ever issued. . . . Nicely straddling the divide between straight instrumental and manipulated dub, Ital Dub is ultimately a snapshot of Augustus Pablo finding his way, on the cusp of greater glory as a bonafide producer of his own works." --David Katz, BBC

Repressed; LP version. Radiation Roots present a reissue of Augustus Pablo's Augustus Pablo At King Tubbys, originally released in 2005. The visionary musician and record producer Augustus Pablo made some of the most unique and individual recordings in the history of reggae. As with his friend and mentor, Jackie Mittoo, the man born Horace Swaby was of mixed Indian and African heritage, and although his middle-class background might have pointed him in a very different direction, the lure of Jamaica's sound system culture captured him at a young age, particularly after debilitating health problems saw him drop out of school. He began recording as a session keyboardist as the '60s gave way to the '70s, but everything changed when a school-friend introduced him to the melodica, a small plastic keyboard operated by a mouthpiece, which he used on seminal recordings for producer Herman Chin-Loy, credited to Augustus Pablo on the release. During the early 1970s, Pablo crafted melodica instrumentals for all of the leading reggae producers, scoring "best instrumental" for "Java" in 1973, and launching the Rockers label to showcase self-produced work at the same time. This multi-faceted compilation, first issued on Bunny Lee's Attack label in 2005, compiles memorable melodica interpretations of some of Lee's greatest productions, recorded over dub cuts of immortal numbers such as Cornell Campbell's "Queen Of The Minstrel" and John Holt's "My Desire".

First time out for this wildly raw version of the Pablo master-rhythm, shot through with other-worldly incantation. Surely, that's Family Man stalking a sunken cavern, and his bro battering all seven shades out of his drum-kit, like Meters on fire. Could be Chinna on guitar, glazed and violent. Producer Gussie Clarke says Theophilus 'Easy Snappin' Beckford is playing piano, with the front removed so he can strum the strings (like he finally snapped). The mixing rears up right in your face. Transferred from acetate - fuss-pots don't grumble, just be humble. The flip brings unmissable alternates from Gussie's tape-room.

"Augustus Pablo (given name Horace Swaby) was born just outside of Kingston. 'I am a Kingstonian,' he told the NME in 1986, 'but my heart is for the hills.' This mystical connection to 'the hills' is at the heart of Pablo's unique and immediately identifiable sound. By the late '60s, Swaby and his brother Dougie had founded a small sound system they called Rockers. The brothers spent a lot of time in record shops, including Aquarius, where owner Herman Chin-Loy heard Swaby experimenting on his melodica and was struck by the inspiration to record. The resulting tune was credited to Augustus Pablo, a name that Chin-Loy invented, as the story goes, to give an air of mystery to the release. Pablo recorded two more singles soon after with 'Java' becoming a major hit and being voted Instrumental Song Of The Year by Jamaica's Swing Magazine. This success led to the Randy's label moving to create a full-length album from Pablo. Recording in the Randy's studio upstairs from the record shop 'we weren't watching the clock...we had the studio,' Clive Chin recalled. The band included a cast of the greatest reggae musicians of all time: future Wailer Tyrone Downie on keyboards, Aston 'Family Man' Barrett, 'Fully' Fullwood and Lloyd Parks on the bass, Carlton Barrett, 'Santa' Davis and Lloyd 'Tin Leg' Adams were on drums and Earl 'Chinna' Smith played guitar. In addition to these future Hall of Famers, the mixing board was helmed by Errol Thompson. Thompson and Chin would together pioneer a tough, new reggae sound that, Chin referred to as 'Rockers' after the Swaby brothers' Rockers Hi-Fi sound system. For this issue three songs contemporary to the first release of This Is... have been added: the original single version of Pablo's hit, 'Java,' and two cuts issued as B-sides to successful Clive Chin-produced records. 'Guiding Red' and 'Marabi.' Augustus Pablo sadly passed away in 1999. 'He was 46,' his obituary stated, 'and lived in the hills outside Kingston,' where his heart belonged. His music has endured and continues to inspire. This Is Augustus Pablo is considered among the greatest collections of Jamaican instrumental music and is an essential part of reggae history."

New 2014 version, replaces the Get On Down label edition. "Within any musical style, there are a few select works that resonate so strongly with audiences that they come to define the genre itself, taking on a mythical quality that transforms the album into something greater than the sum of its individual parts. Meets Rockers Uptown, the 1976 collaboration between producer instrumentalist Augustos Pablo and visionary dub engineer Osbourne 'King Tubby' Ruddock, is one of those historic releases. This package contains the full length album spread across three pieces of colored vinyl, housed in a full color hinged box secured with a magnetic clasp."

2012 release. Augustus Pablo has his place set in reggae's story. His unique sound stemmed from the use of a simple musical instrument, the melodica, which somehow in his hands, became majestic and mystical at the same time. Augustus Pablo cut his musical teeth with producer Herman Chin Loy in 1969, with his first record Iggy Iggy. His second cut for the producer was to be the timeless "East of the River Nile," which carried that haunting Far East feel that in many ways became his signature sound. Pablo has worked with many of Jamaica's top producers, adding his flavor not only with his melodica, but also with his keyboard and piano skills. He has added his magic touch to many of the classic Studio One rhythms, "Skanking Easy" ("Swing Easy" rhythm), "Frozen Dub" ("Frozen Soul" rhythm) to name but two, and his classic set of dubs that he reworked from his own tunes and productions for artists such as Jacob Miller became his renowned dub set King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown, working with the master himself Mr. King Tubby at his studio in Drummlie Avenue, Kingston. Jamaican Recordings have sourced a collection of original rhythms that were cut at Duke Reid's Treasure Isle studio that Mr. Pablo worked over in his now-familiar style, again adding his magical sound over these cuts to produce what Jamaican Recordings believe to be another classic set.

Augustus Pablo's unique sound which was created around playing what could best be described as a child's musical toy, the melodica. It made him a very popular session player in the late 1970s and early '80s. It was not only his unique talent of playing the instrument but also his talents on the piano and the keyboard. Pablo worked on a variety of sessions for all the top Jamaican producers, but especially for King Tubby at his studio in the heart of the Waterhouse district of Kingston, Jamaica. Jamaican Recordings have compiled a set of rhythms that have King Tubby and Phillip Smart at the controls and Augustus Pablo adding his musical flavor to the mix to make what many believe to be a great album. CD version includes two bonus tracks.

"By the time he released Ital Dub in 1975, Augustus Pablo was already a household name in Jamaica. He was fresh off the success of his album Rebel Rock Reggae, and about to enter the most prolific period of his career with legendary dub engineer King Tubby, this being their first collaboration. Recorded and mixed by Tubby at his studio, Ital Dub, produced by Tommy Cowan and Warwick Lyn, features Pablo lending his signature melodica work to originals ('Eli's Move,' 'Shake Up') and covers from Bob Marley ('Rebel Music,' 'Natty Dread'), Peter Tosh ('Funeral') and Junior Byles ('Curly Locks,' 'Irie Feelings'). Overlooked at the time of its initial release, Ital Dub has since been recognized as a worthy entry in Pablo's stellar catalog and 'one of the most innovative albums of the decade' (AllMusic.com). After producing top quality reissues from Lee 'Scratch' Perry and King Tubby, Get On Down is proud to present another Jamaican dub classic, featuring a new digital audio transfer from the original analog tapes." Packaged in a paste-on mini-LP jacket with die cut obi strip and dust sleeve.
