A thrilling collaboration between the acclaimed Belgian composer/instrumentalist Catherine Graindorge and the ever-iconic Iggy Pop. Haunting string and electronic textures melding with Iggy's baritone, cautionary tales. A deep dive into the heart of these unsettled times. It all began with the radio. Together, they've forged a meeting of minds and spirits that's resulted in the The Dictator, an EP that combines their talents: her music, his voice. "He played two tracks of mine on his BBC 6 Music show,"Graindorge explains, "so I sent an email addressed to Iggy to the producer of the show, saying that I was very honored and that I'd be delighted to work on a track with him. It was completely spontaneous; I never thought anything would really happen." But it did. To her disbelief and absolute delight, a reply came two days later: Catherine, I would love to make a track, Iggy. In addition to solo work and being part of the band Nile on WaX, she's worked with artists like Nick Cave, Hugo Race and esteemed producer/musician John Parish. Still, she expected nothing more than to add her violin to a song of his. Instead, she recalls, "Iggy said to send him a track. I began to improvise, and came up with three pieces at home. We communicated and began to exchange ideas." Her wish turned into a fever dream of creativity. "Over Christmas I recorded another track that was more rock. That grabbed him. Then he wrote the lyrics for 'The Dictator' two months before Russia invaded Ukraine." His inspiration came from her sounds and musical structures, and the world he sees around us. "There is a gothic masonry at work here, with a very old force abetted by very cunning structures," Iggy observes about Catherine's music. "My contribution is to report, through words, the current threat, and the longing for happiness and peace."

"Originally released in 1977, this was the first album Iggy Pop made after the dissolution of the Stooges, several jailings and a self-imposed stay in a mental institution. Produced by David Bowie, and including music written almost entirely by him, this is Iggy's most introspective and heavy work. Much more mechanical than the sleazy proto-punk of the Stooges, The Idiot was a huge influence on the post-punk sound of folks like Joy Division and Magazine. An absolute classic on purple vinyl. Limited edition of 1,000."

Iggy Pop, live at the Civic Auditorium, Santa Monica, CA on April 15th, 1977. The Iggy/Bowie period is a sharp document of hedonism and salvation. Two rock stars sought salvation from the narcosis of LA, and moved to West Berlin, a move that would not only give birth to Bowie's celebrated Berlin period and resulting trilogy, but take Iggy Pop from the gutters to the stars with his first two solo albums in 1977. Back on the road with The Idiot (1977) and the impending Lust For Life (1977), Iggy bounces back to life for the 30-date "Rock Around The World" tour, stopping at Santa Monica's Civic Auditorium on the way. Backed by Bowie himself, the formidable Sales brothers (Tony and Hunt), and Ricky Gardiner, Iggy explores his new lease of life with the usual swagger and onstage psychosis. Pitching Fun House (1970) against The Idiot was sure gonna be one to watch! Protus presents the entire original King Biscuit Flower Hour broadcast of Iggy Pop at the Civic Auditorium, Santa Monica, CA from April 15th, 1977. Professionally remastered original broadcast with background liners, interviews, and rare photos capturing the period.

Iggy Pop, live at Chicago's Caberet Metro on 12th July 1988. Iggy Pop was no stranger to Chicago's Cabaret Metro in the 1980s, a rock and roll fixture with decades of smoke and sweat to show for its décor. The adrenaline is laid on thick and fast when Iggy walks out to greet the Metro crowd as Hanoi Rocks's Andy McCoy rips into the slicing, dumb metal of the title-track from Iggy's latest return-to-form album Instinct (1988). Iggy's plugged in for another power surge and the pace is set as the acrobatics nearly bring the ceiling down. "We're gonna rock it to ya straight -- no bullshit... Music should never be too good, too tight. It should excite you. The Stooges's music is supposed to make me feel good. And I've always had faith that if I feel good, others will." This is the complete original WXRT-FM broadcast of Iggy Pop's explosive performance at Chicago's Cabaret Metro on July 12, 1988. Professionally remastered with background liners and rare archival photos.

"By 1976, proto-punk pioneer Iggy Pop had hit a major rut. Drug problems had led to the collapse of The Stooges, the band with whom he made his name, and he had checked himself into UCLA's neuropsychiatric institute in an effort to get clean. David Bowie, seeing his friend and collaborator in desperate need of support and guidance, was one of Iggy's few visitors. Bowie would later invite Pop to accompany him as his companion on the Station To Station tour, the first time Iggy had witnessed an outing of such scale and magnitude. Impressed by the success of the tour and with Bowie's work ethic, the pair relocated to West Berlin in order to wean themselves off their respective addictions and take full advantage of the burgeoning music scene there. While Bowie began work on his now-legendary 'Berlin trilogy,' Iggy signed to Bowie's long term label, RCA, in 1977. With a new record deal in place, alongside the production skills, musicianship and songwriting assistance of David, Iggy was able to record and release what would become his two most acclaimed albums. In March '77 came art-pop masterpiece The Idiot, which produced the singles 'Nightclubbing' and 'China Girl.' Although certain purists would criticize the record for being a David Bowie album in disguise, The Idiot was a resounding success both critically and musically, becoming highly influential on the early industrial and post-punk scenes. On 29th August the same year Lust for Life appeared, a more typical affair for Pop, but ultimately his most successful album to date which spawned one of his signature tunes, 'The Passenger.' The two albums, in addition to the world tour Iggy undertook with Bowie as sideman the same year, would ultimately revitalize the waning performer's career, unleashing an energized Iggy Pop onto the music scene by the end of the decade."

Leaves of Grass is a collaboration between Tarwater, alva noto, and Iggy Pop. Each track features Iggy Pop's readings of American poet Walt Whitman's poetry with music by Tarwater and alva noto. The EP takes its title from Whitman's best-known poetry collection, Leaves of Grass, first published in 1855. Carsten Nicolai aka alva noto is a renowned artist and electronic producer. He is well known for his diverse electronic work released through Mille Plateaux and raster-noton, which he cofounded. His first recordings had a huge impact on what came to be known as glitch music in the late '90s, which was also when Tarwater (Ronald Lippok and Bernd Jestram) began their pioneering work. The duo pushed the boundaries between electronic music, new wave, and indie culture with their idiosyncratic music, which most found hard to describe without using the prefix "post-." In 1967, Iggy Pop cofounded The Stooges, whose massive influence on music since is often summarized with the term "proto-punk." Here, Iggy Pop lends his distinctive voice to seven poems by Walt Whitman, while Tarwater and alva noto create a vibrant and ever-pulsating score, sometimes calm, sometimes plodding and monolithic. Describing Whitman's significance, Iggy Pop reflects, "You know, I think he had something like Elvis. Like Elvis ahead of his time, one of the first manic American populists. You know you're looking at pictures of him, and he was obviously someone who was very much involved with his own physical appearance. His poetry is always about motion and rushing ahead, and crazy love and blood pushing through the body. He would have been the perfect gangster rapper. Whitman says, even the most beautiful face is not as beautiful as the body. And to say that in the middle of the 19th century is outrageous. It's a slap in the face. Look at the popular, well-educated poets of the time, those sensitive noblemen. But Whitman writes: 'Fuck ass.'" Embossed sleeve with full-tone print.
