Delayed until March/2025... "A massive photographic archive of Lee 'Scratch' Perry's legendary recording studio. A 600-page tribute to one of the most famous locales in music history, Black Ark is a detailed inventory of photographs and writings from the Black Ark Studios in Kingston, Jamaica, where producer Lee 'Scratch' Perry created music from 1973 onward. The eclectic and constantly evolving decoration of the studio provides an enduring visual counterpart to Perry's expansive musical catalog. From mural paintings to shape-shifting assemblages of records, instruments, found objects, posters and newspaper clippings, the artworks layer upon one another as they intertwine with the studio building itself. Perry created his own dense and diverse world in which to work: memorialized in this volume before the Black Ark disappears for good. The photographic documentation of the studio in the spring of 2021 was supplemented by efforts to secure and preserve Perry's works, objects and recordings as part of a joint project with the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC. Black Ark reflects the rhythm and layering effects of collage both in its content and the materials used to craft the book. Perry was involved in the development of this publication until his death in August 2021. The book closes with memorial essays from Ishion Hutchinson, David Katz, Kodwo Eshun, and John Corbett. Lee 'Scratch' Perry (1936-2021) was a musician and producer best known for pioneering the dub genre in the 1970s. He worked with well-known Jamaican artists such as Bob Marley and the Wailers, the Heptones, the Congos, and Max Romeo. In 2003 he won a Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album."

One of the greatest classics of Brazilian popular music, with Jorge Ben mixing funky samba, Afro-Brazilian beats, and crunching guitars. LP version. Red color vinyl. "Jules Reidy's sublime music maps the human experience in glittering constellations of sound. The guitarist is a driver of Berlin's fertile contemporary music scene. A wide-eyed imagination combined with technical mastery guide each work in Reidy's extensive catalog, from solo guitar albums and collaborations with innovative peers, including recent works with claire rousay, Oren Ambarchi, Andrea Belfi, and Sam Dunscombe to major commissions from JACK Quartet and Zinc & Copper. The songs of Ghost/Spirit collectively convey an astral sense of yearning and wonder, pushing towards transcendence. The album charts a deeply personal journey with love, spirituality and transformation expressed in fractal guitar figures, ethereal vocal vapors and rippling microtones. Reidy's guitar approach unlocks the tonal and textural possibilities of the instrument from their use of alternate tunings and astute processing. The maximalist melodics of album opener 'Every Day There's a Sunset' are bolstered by rumbling bass samples from Andreas Dzialocha, Reidy's collaborator in the duo Sun Kit. On 'Satellite,' cello samples from Judith Hamann stretch out through the cosmos, orbited by spiraling finger-picked guitars, while stacked trombone chords echo out into the ether. Thundering drum samples from Berlin metal mainstay Sara Neidorf push the album to ecstatic peaks on 'Every Day There's a Sunrise,' fragmented rhythms breaking apart in the atmosphere. Field recordings of the Berlin S-Bahn recur throughout the album, another endless cycle of leaving and returning that shuttles beneath the album's whirling tones. Ghost/Spirit captures the inherent power and agency in choosing to offer yourself up to the universe and let go, ego death and prayer rendered in incandescent sonics. Reidy's inimitable skill as a guitarist, producer and composer is on full display, and when combined with the intensity of experience, the resulting album is a remarkable work of art.
"Jules Reidy is another musician transforming the capabilities of an instrument, in this case the guitar -- somewhere between Vini Reilly, Glenn Branca and Kevin Shields." --The Guardian
"You grasp for names that might fit Reidy's elusive emotional register, searching in vain for an affective Rosetta Stone. The music feels both warmly familiar and uncomfortably alien; therein lies its power." --Pitchfork
"Like looking through a tinted window then trying to adjust to the world's normal colours. It's brilliant." --The Quietus
"[Their] music offers an intricate sonic tapestry of fingerstyle guitar, found sounds and spectral electronic drone." -- Crack

Colours Revisited, a revision of Adam F's MOBO Award-winning 1997 debut album, is a story of musical rebirth and passion. Adam F, realizing that Colours had found a new audience -- partly thanks to artists like PinkPantheress -- decided to recreate the album. Instead of simply remastering the tracks, Adam went all in. Over two years, he meticulously reworked the original music, from restoring vintage instruments like his Fender Rhodes piano to enlisting UK jazz legends like Julian Joseph. Vocalists including Kirsty Hawkshaw and the late MC Conrad re-recorded their parts, while new solos from world-class musicians added fresh life to the tracks. "Colours holds a special place in my heart because it was not only my first solo album, but also because I had the opportunity to collaborate with diverse talents," says the seminal producer on his ground-breaking album. "Musicians of a caliber such as Dave Ital (Guitars), The Jazz Great Julian Joseph (Keyboards and Fender Rhodes), MC Conrad (MC/Artist), Roni Jordan, Tim Philbert/Tim the Bass (Bass), Greg Leicester (Bass), Maurice Capillaire/MC MC (Live MC)." The revisited album deftly weaves together the energy of new live instrumentation with the '80s British electronica and jazz fusion inspired sounds of the original. The result is a project which not only brings the album into the glistening present but somehow manages to add further depth and sense of understanding of the original Colours, the influences latent within it and how and why it has gone on to influence so many others since its inception throughout the world. This is a must have album which pays homage to what has become a cornerstone of British electronic music history.

"Superior Viaduct and new artist label, W.25TH, continue to be the home for Cindy Lee with the physical release of the celebrated album Diamond Jubilee. Universally praised, shortlisted for the 2024 Polaris Music Prize, and already hailed by Pitchfork as the third best album of the 2020s, anticipation and conversation around the record has been high. Cindy Lee is the performance and songwriting vehicle of Patrick Flegel (who previously fronted influential indie group Women). Mount Sinai/Aswan is the first Wyatt E.'s attempt to write the soundscape of a travel in the past which leads to ancient Gods, forgotten cities and lost civilizations. This first record is in a more phantasmagorical vein. It re-imagines an escape to Egypt that stopped at the banks of the Upper Nile. It was released in May 2015 and has only been performed live a handful of times. Also available on CD (HPS 326CD), black vinyl (HPS 326LP), and gold vinyl (HPS 326LTD-LP).

LP version. Gold color vinyl version. After two years in the making, Wyatt E. seals their long-awaited return with the highly anticipated narrative sequel to āl bēlūti dārû: Zamāru ultu qereb ziqquratu Part 1 ("Music from inside the Ziggurat"). This is the first chapter of a set of two concept albums in which the band deepens its exploration of ancient Babylon with an almost mythical approach through the eyes of the exiled captives from Jerusalem. Featuring contributions from seven international collaborators, Zamāru ultu qereb ziqquratu is poised to become one of the most ambitious projects in the doom scene in terms of production and conception. The album pushes sonic boundaries by featuring two drummers recorded simultaneously, creating the immersive effect of distant crowds. An eclectic mix of instruments, including the saz, viola, sitar, and bugle, blend with both analog and digital elements to enrich the soundscape. A nod to Turkish composer Fazıl Say is also present, with a quotation from his symphony Mesopotamia. For the first time, two vocal tracks appear alongside the instrumental pieces. Iranian singer Nina Saiedi lends her ethereal voice to "The Diviner's Prayer to the Gods of the Night," sung in Akkadian, while Jerusalem's choir conductor, Tomer Damsky, delivers a captivating performance of Im Lelya in Aramaic adding a deep vocal layer to the album. The final mix, crafted by renowned producer Tim De Gieter, known for his work with Amenra, Brutus, and Absent in Body, brings everything together with a masterful touch. Also available on CD (HPS 327CD), black vinyl (HPS 327LP), and black/red/yellow vinyl (HPS 327ULTRA-LP).

Pedro Vian and Maalem Najib Soudani's Mogador: a fusion of analog electronic music and traditional gnawa sounds. Mogador stands as a compelling exploration of the intersection between seemingly irreconcilable musical worlds; the experimental realm of analog electronic music and the deep-rooted tradition of Gnawa. This project is more than just a juxtaposition of styles; it's a meeting of minds where the ancient and the modern, the analog and the organic, are woven together into a seamless auditory dialogue. What truly sets Mogador apart is the way Pedro Vian's use of the EMS AKS Synthi and Buchla doesn't overpower the mix but instead forms a perfect synergy with Maalem Najib Soudani's qrebeb and guimbiri. Rather than competing, the analog pulses intertwine with the hypnotic lines of the traditional instruments, amplifying the trance-inducing qualities inherent in Gnawa music. Maalem's vocals, steeped in history and spirituality, float over layers of synths that feel both ethereal and tangible, crafting a soundscape that is as cinematic as it is visceral. This is not just a collision of cultures or a superficial fusion exercise. Mogador represents a genuine dialogue between two ways of understanding sound and space, where every element -- from the syncopated percussion to the serpentine modular waves -- contributes to a sonic landscape that is both haunting and profoundly resonant. Here, tradition isn't a museum piece, and analog electronics aren't a rootless futurism; instead, they transform each other, creating something greater than the sum of their parts.

With Exile to Beyn Neharot, Wyatt E. created the soundtrack of the people of the city of Jerusalem who were sent in exile to Babylon by King Nebuchadnezzar II after the siege of the city in 587 BC. The album is divided into two parts: one devoted to the emperor and his military campaign that led to the exile, the other to an allegiance, real or otherwise, to the goddess Ishtar. The record is the first real album of the band (Mount Sinai/Aswan being an EP) and marks the band's debut on the doom/drone scene. It was first released by Jerusalem's label Shalosh Cult. Also available on black vinyl (HPS 325LP), yellow vinyl (HPS 325LTD-LP), and black/orange vinyl (HPS 325ULTRA-LP).

RELEASE DATE: 1/31/2025
Wewantsounds presents the reissue of Ammar El Sherei's sought-after instrumental album Music From The East from 1976. Here, the iconic Egyptian musician and composer revisits seven classic compositions by another Egyptian legend, Mohamed Abdel Wahab, in his own hypnotic way. Mixing Arabic music with funky arrangements and electric keyboard experimentations, the album is a perfect showcase for El Sherei's artistry. Curated and annotated by Lebanese-born Arabic music expert Mario Choueiry from Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris, this reissue has been newly remastered and comes with original Soutelphan artwork. Musician and composer Ammar El Sherei (1948-2012) is a giant of Egyptian music. Born in Upper Egypt in 1948 into an upper middle-class family (his grandfather was MP during King Fouad's reign and his eldest brother became the Egyptian ambassador to Australia), El Sherei attended a special school for the blind in Cairo (he lost his eyesight in his early childhood). He got noticed by his teachers there who recommended him to the Hadley School for the Blind in America so he could perfect his studies through a correspondence course. Thanks to this, he quickly learnt piano, oud and composition. Once his studies completed, El Sherei began playing in various Cairo bars and clubs and quickly made a name for himself on the Cairo music scene. He also started writing songs for many established Egyptian artists and quickly rose to fame, becoming one of the most sought-after composers for films and TV series. In 1976, El Sherei signed to leading Egyptian label Soutelphan and recorded Music from the East, an homage to the leading Egyptian composer Mohamed Abdel Wahab. On the album, El Sherei masterfully interprets classics from Abdel Wahab including "Enta Enta," "El Kamh El Leila," and "Balad El Mahob." With the help of innovative keyboards of the time, such as the Steelphon S900 or the Farfisa (as seen on the album cover), El Sherei creates hypnotic instrumentals that blend traditional Arabic melodies with jazz, funk and groove. Popular with vinyl collectors and diggers alike, Music from the East is a sought-after gem on the international Arabic Funk scene.

Years of simmering mutual admiration between Turbo and Architectural finally erupt with Good Night, Whatever That Is, the Asturian producer's first release on the label. Nothing gets Turbo hot and bothered like the prospect of featuring a true artist on the label. The Good Night, Whatever That Is EP imbues the timeless platonic forms of techno with an energy, craft and depth that will feel instantly familiar to anyone who has built a cathedral with their bare hands. And yet the unadulterated power of lead single "Steampunk" and the even-less-adulterated power of "Tubular Funk" confirm that this release also has one foot squarely planted on the secular dance floor, coursing with the searing bio-fluids that drive and torment all sexual beings. Meanwhile, your deep human need for contrast will be sated by the IDM-ambient euphorics of "Eternity Land" and the highbrow breaks of "Rousing Rhythms."

The fourth instalment in Pev's Pulse series finds him further widening the scope of his sound as he touches on the distinct energies which inform his unique strain of soundsystem techno. "Pulse XIII" deals in stark, tweaked-out acid lines cutting through a taut drum machine backbone, balanced out with a sci-fi pad which lets you know its Pev at the controls. "Pulse XIV" finds him dialing up his jungle roots once more for a dreamy excursion into diced up breaks, cascading synths and dislocated piano chord chops. There's a deeper dub techno spirit to "Pulse XV" and "Pulse XVI" deals in the raw, bleep-informed jack tracks that have started to creep into Pev's sound as the Pulse series has evolved. Livity Sound is a label set up by Peverelist in 2011 as a vehicle for a raw and exploratory strain of UK techno, rooted in the heritage of UK dance music and sound system culture. It has since become one of the UK's foremost protagonists for cutting edge underground electronic music.

LP version. Also available on CD (HPS 325CD), yellow vinyl (HPS 325LTD-LP), and black/orange vinyl (HPS 325ULTRA-LP).

RELEASE DATE: 1/31/2025
LP version. Also available on CD (HPS 327CD), gold vinyl (HPS 327LTD-LP), and black/red/yellow vinyl (HPS 327ULTRA-LP).
