Luiz Bonfá (1922-2001) is one of Brazil's most influential guitarists and composers. An iconic figure of the bossa nova movement, he helped introduce Brazilian music to the world in the late 1950s and 1960s. Bonfá achieved international fame for his work on Black Orpheus, a film that won an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Trained in classical guitar, he developed a highly personal style, combining technical precision with profound lyricism. His music bridges Brazilian rhythms, jazz harmonies, and classical sensibilities. Beyond his celebrated bossa nova works, albums like Introspection reveal a more intimate and introspective side of his art. First released in 1972, Introspection is considered one of Luiz Bonfá's finest and most accomplished recordings. Recorded almost entirely solo, the album reveals a rare intimacy, great precision, and intense emotional depth. Bonfá's virtuosity shines through in every note, blending classical technique with Brazilian rhythm with profound expressiveness. Long unavailable on vinyl, this reissue marks the first official release on this format in decades. Subtle, powerful, and timeless, Introspection stands as a quiet masterpiece of solo guitar music.

David Zé's Mutudi Ua Ufolo/Viúva da Liberdade is a major milestone in Angolan music, intensely blending semba, rumba, and bolero, recorded at the height of the country's liberation struggle. Both soulful and political, the album resonates far beyond Luanda, carrying a universal spirit akin to that of Bob Marley. Originally released on CDA with Conjunto Merengue, it captures David Zé at his creative peak. Sung in Portuguese and local dialects, it combines rhythmic elegance with deep commitment, weaving links between Afro-Brazilian and Latin American traditions. After his assassination in 1977, the album was banned for several years, before being reborn as an essential work of resistance and beauty. In 2008, his legacy found a new echo when Damian Marley and Nas sampled "Undenge Uami" on Distant Relatives.

Tulipa Ruiz is a Latin Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, and illustrator from São Paulo. Born in a family of musicians (her father, Luiz Chagas, played with Itamar Assumpção, and her brother, Gustavo Ruiz, is her longtime producer), she follows the footsteps of the Vanguarda Paulista and offers a bold, genre-bending sound. Fusing MPB, soul, pop, and rock, her music is joyful, rich, and one of a kind. Since her debut album, Efêmera (2010), Tulipa has become one of Brazil's most distinctive voices, with five critically acclaimed albums, collaborations with Elza Soares and Milton Nascimento, and performances at international festivals such as the Montreux Jazz Festival and Lollapalooza. From the hypnotic "Samaúma" to the infectious "Estardalhaço," Habilidades Extraordinarias seamlessly blends improvisation and groove. The duet "Disco Voador" with João Donato, one of her last recordings, bridges generations, combining bossa-jazz swing and the warmth of Donato's Fender Rhodes with Tulipa's luminous vocals. "Pluma Black" (featuring Negro Leo) explores pre-jazz abstraction, while "Novelos" and the album's title track evoke the soul-jazz of the Hermeto Pascoal and Stevie Wonder era. Acclaimed throughout Brazil, Habilidades Extraordinarias established Tulipa Ruiz as a leading figure in modern MPB, combining melodic sophistication, humor, and emotional depth. Ten years after her spectacular climb to success and her Latin Grammy Award victory, she continues to enrich the Brazilian pop and jazz scene.

20th Anniversary Reissue. Remastered. Groundbreaking MPB/downtempo classic. Originally released in 2005, Céu introduced the world to a bold new voice in Brazilian music. Seamlessly blending samba, MPB, soul, and downtempo grooves, Céu delivered a debut that felt both deeply rooted and strikingly contemporary. With her smoky, understated vocal tone, she evoked echoes of classic bossa nova while pushing into new sonic territory -- covering Bob Marley's "Concrete Jungle" with Afro-Brazilian swing and layering in dub and electronica accents. Hailed for its elegance and quiet innovation, the album hit No. 1 on Billboard's World and Heatseekers charts, earned a Grammy nomination, and became the highest U.S. chart debut for a Brazilian female artist since Astrud Gilberto. Now celebrating its 20th anniversary, Céu returns remastered for vinyl -- a modern Brazilian classic reissued for a new generation of listeners. Includes classics: "Lenda," "Malemolencia," and "Concrete Jungle." Mastering by Colorsounds Paris.

Originally released in 2009, Céu's Vagarosa is a landmark of 21st-century Brazilian music -- a lush, genre-blurring journey that weaves samba, dub, psychedelic soul, and electronic textures into a sound both timeless and futuristic. Now reissued on vinyl, this essential album invites listeners to rediscover its warm, analog charm. From the opening track "Sobre o Amor e Seu Trabalho Silencioso," with its cavaquinho and vinyl crackle, to the dub-infused "Cangote," where organ swells and basslines intertwine, Vagarosa showcases Céu's ability to blend traditional Brazilian rhythms with global influences. Her reinterpretation of Jorge Ben's "Rosa Menina Rosa" transforms into a psychedelic swirl of reverb and phasing effects, maintaining its breezy essence. The album's closing track,"Espaçonave," features rainforest sounds and multi-tracked vocals layered over fuzzed-out guitar, reminiscent of the art-pop sensibilities of artists like Natalia Lafourcade. Critically acclaimed upon release, Vagarosa reached No. 2 on the US Billboard World Music chart and was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award for Best Brazilian Contemporary Pop Album in 2010. Its innovative production and Céu's ethereal vocals have cemented its status as a modern classic in Brazilian music. This vinyl reissue captures the album's rich textures and sonic depth, offering both longtime fans and new listeners an opportunity to experience Vagarosa in its full analog glory. Remastered by Colorsounds Paris.

LP version. Born in Buenos Aires in 1934, Hector "Costita" Bisignani is one of the leading figures in Latin American jazz. Settling in São Paulo in the late 1950s, he quickly established himself as one of Brazil's most renowned flutists and saxophonists, collaborating with major artists such as Sérgio Mendes, Elis Regina, Hermeto Pascoal, João Donato, and Gato Barbieri. His career also led him to play alongside Michel Legrand, Lalo Schifrin, Burt Bacharach, and Ray Conniff, demonstrating his international influence. A founding member of Sérgio Mendes' Sexteto Bossa Rio, he contributed to the rise of Brazilian jazz by incorporating local rhythms and bold compositions. He is also renowned as a teacher, making him a respected figure for several generations of musicians. With a career spanning more than 70 years, he remains a pioneering figure in the history of Latin American jazz. 1981, now reissued, perfectly illustrates this creative freedom. Recorded in the exuberant spirit of the 1970s and 1980s, it blends baião, jazz-funk, and Brazilian soul. Led by his saxophone, flute, and clarone, and backed by his Gallery Club band, this rare recording embodies the vibrant energy of a scene where experimentation and virtuosity went hand in hand.

A true embodiment of Brazilian boogie, this is the first official reissue of Brylho's album, founded in Rio de Janeiro in 1978 as Brylho da Cidade. The group was influenced by the Black Rio movement of Tim Maia, Cassiano, and others. Members included Arnaldo Brandão (vocals/bass), Paulo Roquette (guitar), Cláudio Zoli (guitar/vocals), Robério Rafael (drums), Bolão (percussion), and Ricardo Cristaldi (keyboard). Claudio Zoli stands out as an important funk artist of the 1980s, during a time when pop rock bands dominated the Brazilian music scene. This album features one of the biggest hits of 1983: the soulful reggae groove "Noite do Prazer." Often described as Rio de Janeiro's answer to George Benson's "Give Me the Night," it's a timeless classic that bridges funk, soul, and Brazilian grooves. On "Se Você For a Salvador," a sun-soaked, feel-good boogie track, younger generations have embraced a new term to describe the sound: Brazilian City Pop. The record also delivers dancefloor heat like the stomping "Jóia Rara," the vibrant soul-reggae fusion "Destrava Maria," the ahead-of-its- time rap-funk hybrid "Cheque Sem Fundo," and the electrifying samba-reggae "Pé de Guerra," rich with Bahian rhythms and energy. Closing out the album are two under-the-radar jazz-funk gems: "Meditando" and "171." Though often lumped into the boogie category, these tracks lean more toward the sleek 1980s jazz-funk sound, reminiscent of UK acts like Level 42.

Recorded live in one session at age 18, this album helped launch Tania Maria's career as an acclaimed Brazilian jazz artist, celebrated for her virtuoso combination of piano and vocals. Produced by Romeo Nunes (Meirelles e Os Copa 5, Rio 65 Trio, Elis Regina, Elza Soares), the album features the pioneering Edison Machado, who transformed samba and was instrumental in the development of Bossa Nova through his groundbreaking "samba no prato" (samba on the cymbals) technique. His work helped shape the sounds of Jobim, Getz, and Milton Nascimento. On guitar is the legendary Neco, who played on over 500 albums. Initially self-taught, he later studied under maestros Guerra Peixe and Moacir Santos. He collaborated with icons like Elis Regina and Chico Buarque, and was a member of Os Ipanemas, Os Catedráticos, and Os Gatos. His solo work includes Velvet Bossa Nova (1966), which became an acid jazz favorite. The album features compositions by Caetano Veloso and Marcos Valle, alongside early samba classics. Blending Brazilian rhythms with elements of samba, bossa nova, and jazz fusion, it captures the early development of Tania Maria's signature style. Born in São Luís, Brazil in 1948, Tania Maria began playing piano at age seven. She learned samba, jazz, and chorinho through her father's weekend jam sessions. Leading her own band by age 13, she performed across the region while collecting records from influential artists. Though she earned a law degree and started a family, her passion for music ultimately won out -- she left law to pursue music full-time.

Abaeté, a vocal trio from Bahia, made a remarkable debut with masterfully crafted jazz-funk sambas, at a time when Bahian musicians were true masters of the genre. There's virtually no information about the band, apart from the music itself, which seems to be limited to two releases: a single and that much-loved 1977 self- titled album, now a cult classic. A collection of killer tunes, funky samba, synthesizer sounds and free rhythms with a North Brazilian flavor. The band also wrote songs for Clara Nunes and Elza Soares in the '70s. Mixed by Waldir Lombardo Pinheiro.
