"Scratch Came Scratch Saw Scratch Conquered is the 2008 album by Lee 'Scratch' Perry (born Rainford Hugh Perry), who was a Jamaican record producer, composer and singer noted for his innovative studio techniques and production style. Perry was a pioneer in the 1970s development of dub music with his early adoption of remixing and the use of studio effects to create new instrumental or vocal versions of existing tracks. From his Black Ark Studio in Kingston Jamaica, he worked with and produced a wide variety of artists, including Bob Marley and the Wailers, Junior Murvin, Susan Cadogan, The Congos, and Max Romeo. Later, he moved to Switzerland and reinvented himself as a performance and visual artist but continued to produce innovative music -- collaborations include The Beastie Boys, The Clash, Keith Richards, George Clinton, and Adrian Sherwood. Scratch Came Scratch Saw Scratch Conquered is the second in a series of three albums he made with English musician and producer Steve Marshall a.k.a. John Saxon. It features guest appearances by none other than George Clinton and Keith Richards. The 2LP Scratch Came Scratch Saw Scratch Conquered is available as a limited edition of 1500 individually numbered copies on translucent green colored vinyl, housed in a gatefold sleeve."

"Deep Nyabinghi drumming and chanting on a version of the Ethiopian national anthem gets things underway on Slave Call, a majestic journey through the spiritual roots of reggae. Later songs add guitars, bass, keyboards, and horns to build a more standard reggae sound on that foundation, but there's always a dignified restraint and the profundity of the nyabinghi beat. the entire album revolves around Leonard Dillon's Rastafarian beliefs, with even the cover of the Beatles' 'Let It Be,' rewritten to a religious end. Slave Call is available as a limited edition of 750 individually numbered copies on orange colored vinyl."

"Engine 54 is the debut studio album by The Ethiopians, who were one of Jamaica's best-loved harmony groups during the late ska, rocksteady and early reggae periods. Responsible for a significant number of hits between the mid-1960s and early 1970s, the group was also one of the first Jamaican acts to perform widely in Britain. Their debut album Engine 54 was originally released in 1968 and sounds far more rocksteady than ska, recorded with Tommy McCook and the Supersonics. Few if any other acts brought '60s soul and Jamaican rhythms together with such entrancing results. Engine 54 is available as a limited edition of 750 individually numbered copies on gold colored vinyl."

"Naqoyqatsi is the third and final film in the Qatsi trilogy, meaning 'life as war.' About eighty percent of Naqoyqatsi uses archive footage and stock images manipulated and processed digitally on non-linear editing (workstations and intercut with specially produced computer-generated imagery to demonstrate society's transition from a natural environment to a technology-based one). Just like its predecessors Koyaanisqatsiand and Powaqqatsi, the music was composed by Philip Glass. Performed by members of the Philip Glass Ensemble, and featuring the amazing Yo-Yo Ma on cello, this completes the lengthy score which was begun for this film series with Koyaanisqatsi in 1982. The music is more in the traditional orchestral tradition than much of Glass's work as a familiar doorway to images so disconnected from the familiar world. One instrument, the cello, plays through much of the piece. Some unconventional instruments are used in addition to traditional ones, including a didgeridoo and an electronically created jaw harp. Naqoyqatsi is available as a limited edition of 500 individually numbered copies on translucent red colored vinyl, housed in a gatefold sleeve and contains an eight-page booklet."

"First Utterance is the debut album of the progressive folk band Comus. It was released in 1971, with the opening song 'Diana' being released as a single. The album was notable for its unique blend of progressive rock, folk, psychedelia, with elements of paganism and the macabre. The overall thematic tone of the album is of vulnerable innocence facing abusive power, the songs dealing with violence ('Drip Drip'), rape ('Diana,' 'Song to Comus'), and insulin shock therapy ('The Prisoner'). References to Comus by other bands and artists include Opeth, citing its lyrics in album and song titles. Experimental outfit Current 93 also covered 'Diana' as the opening song on their 1997 LP Horsey. The cover artwork was drawn in ball point pen by Roger Wootton, lead singer and songwriter of the band. The centerfold artwork was painted by guitarist Glenn Goring. First Utterance is available as a limited edition of 1000 individually numbered copies on crystal clear vinyl and includes an insert."

"Arguably the finest Jamaican soul singer of his generation, Ken Boothe burst onto the international stage when his sublime rendering of Bread's melancholic 'Everything I Own' topped the UK charts in the autumn of 1974. Within months of this success, the native-born Kingstonian returned to the national listings with the captivating 'Crying Over You', which made number 11 later that year. To coincide with the release of the latter, Trojan Records released the album, Everything I Own; a supremely soulful collection that featured his two international hits alongside a number of sublimely produced songs, cut in both Jamaica and the UK. Everything I Own is available as a limited edition of 750 individually numbered copies on gold colored vinyl."

"The American bass guitarist and record producer Bill Laswell has been involved in thousands of recordings with many great artists, including Herbie Hancock, Fela Kuti, Pharoah Sanders, and even produced the Miles Davis remix album Panthalassa. He draws his music from funk, world music, jazz, dub, and ambient styles. His 2001 album Divine Light features inspired 'reconstructions and mix translations' of tracks from Carlos Santana's first spiritual explorations. For this album, Laswell went for the two albums that were an explicit acknowledgement of Santana's love of John Coltrane, Illuminations (1974) and Love Devotion Surrender (1973). Divine Light (Reconstruction & Mix Translation By Bill Laswell) is available on vinyl for the very first time as a limited edition of 1500 individually numbered copies on yellow, red and black marbled vinyl. "Through his operas, his symphonies, his compositions for his own ensemble, and his wide-ranging collaborations with artists ranging from Twyla Tharp to Allen Ginsberg, Woody Allen to David Bowie, Philip Glass has had an extraordinary and unprecedented impact upon the musical and intellectual life of his times. The operas -- Einstein on the Beach, Satyagraha, and Akhnaten among many others -- play throughout the world's leading houses, and rarely to an empty seat. Glass has written music for experimental theater and for Academy Award-winning motion pictures. Glass is the first composer to win a wide, multi-generational audience in the opera house, the concert hall, the dance world, in film and in popular music - simultaneously. Much of his early work was based on the extended reiteration of brief, elegant melodic fragments that wove in and out of an aural tapestry. Or, to put it another way, it immersed a listener in a sort of sonic weather that twists, turns, surrounds, develops. In the past 30 years, Glass has composed more than twenty-five operas, large and small; twelve symphonies; three piano concertos and concertos for violin, piano, timpani, and saxophone quartet and orchestra; soundtracks to films ranging from new scores for the stylized classics of Jean Cocteau to Errol Morris's documentary about former defense secretary Robert McNamara; string quartets; a growing body of work for solo piano and organ. Essential is available as a limited edition of 1500 individually numbered copies on crystal clear vinyl. The 4LP is housed in a deluxe 10mm slipcase sleeve and includes a four-page booklet."

"Peter Green's fourth solo album Whatcha Gonna Do? was originally released in 1981. You can hear Green's natural affinity for R&B in both his fluid guitar and earthy vocals on some of the songs on this album. Like 'Trying to Hit My Head Against the Wall,' 'Like a Hot Tomato,' and 'Lost My Love' (the last of which, makes clear Green's overlooked love of sentimental '50s American R&B/proto soul). During the recordings, Green was accompanied by Fairport Convention-drummer Dave Mattacks. "The Fall's fourth studio album Perverted by Language was released in 1983. The album was produced by the band's vocalist and songwriter Mark E. Smith and recorded at various studios in Manchester. Perverted by Language features some of The Fall's most renowned tracks, including 'Garden.' The album's sound is characterized by its sharp and angular post-punk guitar riffs, driven by a heavy bass and drums rhythm section, all layered with Mark E. Smith's distinctive vocals. Lyrically, Perverted by Language deals with themes of alienation, disorder, and the unpredictability of modern life. Smith's idiosyncratic and cryptic wordplay, including his penchant for inventing new words and phrases, adds to the album's overall sense of unease and dislocation. Despite its challenging sound and lyrics, Perverted by Language is considered by many critics and fans to be one of The Fall's finest albums, showcasing the band at their creative and innovative peak. The album is available on black vinyl and includes an insert."

"The incipient incarnation of Atomic Rooster with Vincent Crane (organ/vocals), Nick Graham (vocals/bass), and Carl Palmer (drums) was together just long enough to document its 1970 debut. Prior to the last-minute addition of Graham -- the only bassist Atomic Rooster ever had -- the band emerged from the remnants of the then recently defunct Crazy World of Arthur Brown. The material was primarily courtesy of Crane and consisted of heavy and versatile sides. The versatility is evident throughout the impressive array of styles ranging from the folk-inspired pastoral songs via bluesy horn arrangement and contrasting driving rockers and jazzy spells. Lyrically, Crane reveals his penchant for dark imagery. Support at the time was bolstered by strong live appearances, positive word-of-mouth, and significant BBC radio sessions. Atomic Rooster is available as a limited edition of 1000 individually numbered copies on translucent green colored vinyl."

"From The Roots is the fourth studio album by one of the best-known ska and rocksteady vocal groups, The Maytals. The group was founded in 1962 by Toots Hibbert, Henry 'Raleigh' Gordon, and Nathaniel 'Jerry' Mathias. They helped popularizing reggae music during the '60s and were even credited in the etymology of the word 'reggae' in the Oxford English Dictionary, as a result of being the first to use the word 'reggae' in their 1968 single 'Do They Reggay.' The album From The Roots was recorded by Leslie Kong and features some of The Maytals' most explosive tunes. Fun fact, the album was already recorded in 1970, but wasn't released until three years later, after signing to Island Records in 1973. From The Roots is available as a limited edition of 750 individually numbered copies on yellow and translucent green marbled vinyl."
