Jeff Mills on The Clairovoyant: "There are many ways to imagine the future. One might be to look back in the past to see what has similarities to what we are seeing today. Another way might be to invent and build a time machine to jettison ahead in time to get a glimpse. And, one way might be to use our natural senses to feel what the future might be like. Though all are intriguing to explore, this album is about the latter option. We are a species of human animals and we are guided by the ways of 'knowing' from feeling; by the ways of intuition, premonitions, and sensing. Each one of us are born with this special tool set that tells us when the time is right, when enough is enough and when there may be more or less to it. It has been these skills that has allowed humanity to survive and flourish for thousands of years. It is also safe to say that we do not know all there is to know about this skill. A Clairvoyant is a person who claims to have a supernatural ability to perceive events in the future or beyond normal sensory contact. 100 years around 1920, a person with such abilities that could summon, speak to the decease and spirits were in high demand due to post World War I battle casualties, the Spanish Flu virus pandemic of 1918, the social and civil unrest and many more events that made uncertainty the norm. Ironically, the we were doomed to repeat some of these events and what we're experiencing today. The general impression of Clairvoyant was that of a conductor of faux hope, scam artist that preys on grief and desperation or someone that believes in their natural ability a bit too much! In many cases, this might have credit, but also, it was this person, with this way of supposedly channeling the beyond that gave people hope, optimism, resolve and much needed closure. The album plays in the way of a metaphysical seance and should be listened to in a darkened, candle lit room. A silent space, free of outside noise, chatter or talking and other visual distractions. The album should be listened in full -- from beginning to end."

Paradox: a doubtful statement or proposition that when investigated or explained may prove to be well founded or true. When a spark ignites between two musicians, the state of flow can be achieved. Usually, a fleeting sensation, but when captured, it is an unstoppable force. The coming together of Jeff Mills and Jean-Phi Dary came from a collaborative project with the late great Tony Allen and created chemistry instantly. Both being cognizant of the skilled innate improvisation that was happening in small jam sessions, they conceived the concept for their collaborative project: The Paradox. They believed that this uncompromising freedom and the manifestation of new ideas allowed them to reach a higher level of spiritual consciousness within their work. Recorded in real-time; these compositions reflect captured spontaneous actions which concede honesty and truth. Jean-Phi Dary is an enriched musical soul of Guyanese descent. The French artist has rhythm infused with his being, taking influence from his father's taste in Afro Cuban and Kompa music, in which he fused with his desire for jazz, reggae, and funk. This melting pot of rhythm manifested in the organ initially, before playing bass in a Caribbean orchestra. The multi-instrument musician had an indubitable flare for keyboard and piano and began to make waves in clubs in the 1980s in the south of France before moving to Paris. Proving to be the catalyst of his musical journey, he has played and collaborated with the likes of Papa Wemba, Peter Gabriel, Paco Sery, and Phoenix. With a career spanning decades, it has taken him everywhere playing Afrobeat, jazz, soul and a plethora of others, all the while contributing to over twenty albums. Jeff Mills is known the world over, performing in nearly all four corners of the globe. Cutting his teeth during a legendary precursory period of techno in Detroit, as The Wizard, he became an influential figure with the Underground Resistance. Mills soon took shape as a multifaced artist molded by his passion for space and science-fiction. He launched the legendary Axis label in 1992, and his reach started to broaden over the occurring decades. A mercurial talent, he has countless collaborations such as Emile Parisien, Mikhail Rudy, Mari Samuelsen, Jean-Michel Jarre, and Tony Allen, over a myriad of fields: cine-mixes, orchestral concerts, DVD projects and performances in prestige art institutions. Personnel: Jean-Phi Dary - keyboards/synthesizer; Jeff Mills - drum machine/synthesizer; Herve Samb - guitar (on "Super Solid"). Recorded at Studio Ferber, One Two Pass It, Midilive Studios, Paris.

"The overall goal was to create something that bared the traits and signs that would catch the attention of a music lover. Someone that has danced themselves into a relationship with music that is unconditional and undeniable." --Jeff Mills
Byron The Aquarius is no stranger to true music fans. In January 2020 he gathered his friend musicians in Atlanta for a session of a few days at Patchwerk Studios under Jeff Mills's supervision. The result is a fantastic mix between soulful house and jazz music with a touch of blues. When Byron The Aquarius talks about live frequencies, his enthusiasm is infectious. A keys player by trade, one can detect echoes of the likes of Keith Jarrett, Jan Hammer, and Herbie Hancock. With a tinge of pitch bend and the early release of words, you can hear the rhythm in the way he speaks. This might be a common trait coming from one who lives in Birmingham, Alabama and has been greatly educated on jazz by his grandfather. In his music, he reminds the listener how precious the single note can be again and this makes the attraction to his music irresistible. Proudly put, his music does wait for anyone's approval and this is exactly what makes this man and what he creates so unique. Byron's love for melody and harmony has consistently drawn the attention of electronic music's leading labels and producers and he's worked along with some of the best. In 2015, Byron released a ten-track solo album on BBE entitled Planets of Love. When he wasn't working on his own music, he was playing keys in the studio with Atlanta-based house DJ/artist Kai Alce. These creations soon fell upon the radar of the Detroit maestro Theo Parrish, who loved the sound of his sublime jazz-infected house and selected two tracks to release on his legendary Sound Signature label in 2016. The resulting Highlife EP has been hailed nothing less than "stunning", "intoxicating", and "essential." In the years since, Byron has released a consistently high level of music on Wild Oats, Eglo Records, and more. He has toured the planet playing festivals such as Dimensions, Dekmantel, Suncebeat, Lente Kabinet, All Points East, and many more as well as a plethora of the world's best clubs. Despite the limitation brought on by the pandemic, 2020 has been a busy one for Byron.

LP version. Includes one-page insert. In 2018, the idea was introduced by Jeff Mills to address the lack of artistic collaborations within and from the city of Detroit. The city had always been an engine of new innovative ideas related to music, art, dance, poetry, and all other arts. It was thought of as a way to demonstrate the commonality people possess from various art forms and that by mixing ideas visions and perspectives together are might produce unexpected and often provocative results. The project started when Mills reached out to one of Detroit techno's founder and legendary DJ/producer Eddie Fowlkes. Though the two are known and connected to Detroit techno and knew each other for decades, they never worked together so the first few meetings and conversations were marked with finding all the common links that have built both of their careers. During this time, Mills wanted to find a third person for the project, one that was from Detroit, but not a musician. His idea was that by engaging two other creative thinkers would most likely produce something unique as emotions would become linked together to find that common, but higher level. While browsing the web, Mills discovered a post that featured the Detroit-born poet Jessica Care Moore. Struck by her words and the energy she mastered to say them, Mills knew immediately that she would be the perfect artist to approach for this creative venture. As with most artists that grew up in Detroit, they immediately opened up the links in their past, present, and future outlook. He presented the case and explained to her how he thought it might work. She liked the idea and agree to join. The Crystal City Is Alive (A phrase extracted from Moore's words), puts the Detroit, America, and the world on notice. The alarm has sounded and it is now time to mobilize all creative units to the frontline. CD version includes eight-page booklet. Double LP version includes one-page insert.

Jeff Mills continues the Every Dog Has Its Day series under his Millsart moniker with his second edition of 2020. Following Vol. 5 (AX 085LP), Vol. 6 is a double LP set with nine tracks. Prior to Vol. 5, the last installment came out in the early 2000s, just enough time for a periodical cicada to emerge from the ground, finished with its former life as a nymph. The series itself has acted as a barometer of the times, and Mills feels, after a long layoff, it's time to rehash his Millsart persona and gauge the here and now, and where it fits in. Red cover.

In 2020, Jeff Mills is inviting his listeners to look inward in the form of his Every Dog Has Its Day series. The last time an installment came out was 17 years ago, just enough time for a periodical cicada to emerge from the ground, finished with its former life as a nymph. The series itself has acted as a barometer of the times, and Mills feels, after a long layoff, it's time to rehash his Millsart persona and gauge the here and now, and where it fits in. The record itself will be the fifth chapter. It's donned in a specific color, taking heed from its predecessors. The first four were gold, silver, pearl, and sky blue. Now it's time for red: the first of the series to be a primary color, it was chosen for its connotation. Red, being very emotive, stirs different feelings in us all; lust, love, rage, power, energy, desire, passion. This music is a tool for us to see the world as is, and be able to reflect inwards to see what we are. It's not your stereotypical electronic dance track or DJ tool. Each of the eight cuts has a story behind it and invites the listener to get lost in it and curate their opinions about it or themselves. Stripped and left in a way for true music listeners, those with unconditional love and appreciation for a master at their craft. Mills himself has said, "You never figure out life, you just get used to it." Reflected in this record is that sentiment, that life doesn't present to you the answers because there are none. What is right and just for you, may not be for me, so how can I share with you any secrets. Electronic music can act as a guide, a catalyst of your headspace; it is not the map. The sixth edition of this series is soon to follow in spring dressed in brown, continuing to deliver a spiritual and emotional raft for you to see that Every Dog Has Its Day.

Sight, sound, and space are deeply rooted in the work of Jeff Mills. But what do these three quintessential elements mean? Is it possible to describe to someone what it is like to see for the first time, or to listen to music in a new way, or to travel throughout the galaxy without having to break through the earth's atmosphere? The man from the moon has deep-seated thoughts about these concepts and explains them through this massive compilation, Sight, Sound And Space. The project has Mills diving into his extensive catalog and selecting tracks which epitomize his feelings on each. Sight is a beautiful faculty bestowed upon the human race. Mills wants his music to draw the correlation between sight and sound. In this opening part, you see him select tracks which often soundtrack classical sci-fi films, in which what we experience is the embodiment of all three: sight, sound, and space. As in with opening track "Perfecture", composed for Fritz Lang's Metropolis (1927), where the track is to accentuate the perfection of the futuristic buildings John Coltrane used to deconstruct music when he listened to it, listening to each aspect individually to absorb and appreciate it completely. Repetition, or the lack of it, is often at the heart of listening to music: it helps us understand its structure. An understanding of sound aids in reaching into the realm of music which encapsulates things or experiences, and electronic music is the perfect tool for exploring these possibilities. Tracks like "Microbe" exude this point, with layered beats each with their own meaning and direction which make a tantalizing cut. Space is one of the pinnacles of Mills' interests. The similarities between it and techno are remarkable, the more that is discovered about each, the more possibilities they reveal. "One Man Spaceship" was constructed to give the listener the experience of navigating through the cosmos. Perpetuated here is electronic music as a guide. Space may frighten you as this gigantic continuum that is detached from you, but you must remember you are a part of it. Sight, Sound And Space is another installment in his The Director's Cut series. DVD package size, hard-cover book style package; Includes three CDs and a 50-page booklet.

2x12" version. Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Moon landing (July 20, 2019), Axis Records present the release of the album by Jeff Mills on his interpretations of Earth's Moon, The Area Of Influence. Jeff Mills on the release:"There are influences of the Moon we can detect, measure and document as scientific facts. If these are perceived as rational explanations, then it should raise questions about the possibility of other unseen mental and metaphysical connections humans have, not just with the Moon but with all other celestial bodies in and outside this Solar System. On the flipside, as we recognize that our Sun gives us light and a lifespan, what does an even greater force in the Cosmos, perhaps the darkness (or absence of anything) affects us. If we look at the Moon as a component in a vast configuration of integral connected parts, then an intuitive sense might lead us to a wider understanding about how deeply our relationship lies. This album and the imagination that helped to produce it should be considered as a proposition with open-endedness and no foreseeable conclusion. It is a chemistry of facts and feelings based on then, now and forever."

As electronic music knows no creative boundaries, Spiral Deluxe is clearly a profound and convincing example of what is possible in the times we live in today. Traditionally, they would be considered a musical quartet. Each of the four members contributing to make a special joint effort -- the meeting of minds from different spectrums of the musical sphere, but if you move in closer to examine how each have modified the way they communicate in order to play with each other. A longtime vision of their drummer/percussionist and Jeff Mills. Before becoming the world renown and groundbreaking DJ, producer, and artist he is recognized for, he was a drummer in his youth, which carried on up until he began DJing in the late 1970s. Since then, he had always carried idea to get back to his musical roots. This longtime dream began to surface a few years ago when Mills was bestowed a "white card" residency at the Museum du Le Louvre in Paris. It was there that he found the opportunity to form a band for one night and it opened the doors to a chance to materialize his dream. Since then, the formation has carefully evolved into one might describe as a "super band" -- a group of highly-skilled musicians, working together to reach a higher level of creativity. For example, although members are using electronic instruments, there is no MIDI syncing connection. Each plays their instrument unattached as if any jazz or rock band would play together. Each having a vast amount of experience in live and studio projects, this release displays their wealth of skill and musical knowledge that comes from jazz, funk, pop, gospel, Detroit techno, and all forms of house music. Spiral Deluxe is: Yumiko Ohno - keyboard; Gerald Mitchell - keyboard; Kenji "Jino" Hino - bass guitar; Jeff Mills - drums and percussion. Voodoo Magic is the result of a two-day recording session at the famous Studio Ferber in Paris. Most tracks on this release were recorded in one-take recordings to "capture the moment". "Let It Go" was composed by Spiral Deluxe and features even more masterful artistry of the likes of veteran vocalist Tanya Michelle, with the mix production of the one-and-only Detroit native producer and DJ Terrence Parker. 180 gram vinyl; Axis Audiophile Series; Color gatefold jacket. A and B side: 33 1/3rpm; C and D side: 45rpm.

Poignant, aggressive, but serene sound track created by Jeff Mills for And Then There Was Light, a Japanese film directed by Tatsushi Omori based on the novel Hikari by Shion Miura. The music is an additional character in the scenes, showing the determination of the people and a great sense of loss, agony, and love.
A synopsis of the film: On Mihama, an island off the coast of Tokyo, a middle school student, Nobuyuki, will do anything for his beautiful girlfriend and classmate, Mika. One night, he catches her in the arms of another man. Thinking quickly, Mika responds by pretending that she is being molested and calls for Nobuyuki's help. Nobuyuki naturally obliges and ends up killing the man. But someone witnessed the incident: a young neighbor named Tasuku, who looks up to Nobuyuki. That night, a devastating tsunami hits the island, wiping out most of its residents. All is quiet. Fast forward 25 years later, and Mika has become an actress leading a glamorous life. Nobuyuki, meanwhile, is married to another woman and has a five-year-old daughter. The past appears to have been buried for good, until one day the only witness to the crime, Tasuku, reappears with a vendetta on his mind. First, he seduces Nobuyuki's wife and begins an illicit affair with her. He then sends incriminating evidence of the long-lost crime to Mika. Once again, Nobuyuki finds himself needing to protect Mika.

It has been 100 years since the British composer Gustav Holst introduced his most famous score The Planets. An elegant musical tour to each one of our planets in the solar system, Holst brought forth imaginary visions of space that would survive many generations and decades after. As an important piece to the classical universe, The Planets is regularly played throughout the world every year as it had been the most vivid translation of our cosmic neighborhood until now. The electronic music artist and producer Jeff Mills, pays tribute to this century of incredible musical production. He embarks on a sonic journey to compose and re-discover our neighboring planets in an 18-piece suite that explores the nine planets, including the portions of space in between the planets, the nine regions Mills calls "Loop Transits". Mills takes the rotating principle of the solar system as aesthetics, concept, and model for creativity. From the beginning, his first releases explored futuristic and science fiction topics, and he continues to do so to this day. For Jeff Mills, the future is a powerful creative drive which explains the artist's ceaseless activity. Since its creation and like the intention of Holst, each track is musically imagined to invoke the psychological effect, emotions, and ideas of each planet. But unlike in the year 1918, when the score was first publicly heard on the last week of World War I, 100 years later, there is now a more accurate knowledge about what each planet is made of and what they look like. The piece should bring the audience closer to confronting each planet in ways that audiences in 1918 could only dream of. With the French composer Sylvain Griotto, the arranger of Planets, and Mills's previous work on the album and classical score about the NASA astronaut and doctor Mamoru Morhi's space journey in 1992 and 2000 from the album Where Light Ends (2013), Mills has created an electronic music album that has been translated for symphonic and philharmonic orchestras and will accompany them in their live debut and all performances. Starting to conceptualize and produce music for it dating back to 2005, Mills constantly worked on the project over the years to bring it to fruition. In July 2016, Jeff Mills completed the last production stages of the Planets album at the world famous Abbey Road Studios in London.

Lost In Space is an exotic music excursion into the unknown -- discovering the sectors of outer space and encountering unexpected occurrences which is to be the objective, narrative and attraction. An extraordinary musical creation by the artist Jeff Mills, he conceives Lost In Space with the future of mankind's advances in space travel and colonizing other planets in mind. Fusing classical and electronic music is the only way to play out a scenario of such magnitude of possibilities. The music was created for the classical orchestral version commissioned by Orchestre National Du Capitole de Toulouse, France.

"The recordings are made during the live performance in Leiden, Netherlands on 21st February 2015." "Expanding the art forms in Dance Music has always been an agenda that needs constant monitoring because it has the ability to evolve and develop each and every idea. At angles that are not easy to see or understanding for most of the listening and dancing audiences, I've always felt that Dance music would make more sense to the people if they were allowed chances to understand how the music is being programmed and made -- to witness this process from beginning. The Exhibitionist 2 DVD is designed to go even deeper into the art form to display, not only how a DJ uses the latest technology, but how he thinks in real time to create and work spontaneously like a musician playing a acoustic instrument or a soloist thinking of rhythms on-the-spot. This is a rare opportunity to see how the technology of today is allowing DJs to be more free and thus, more creative." --Jeff Mills
