A Recordings was formed in 2008 in the UK by the Brian Jonestown Massacre's Anton Newcombe. Releasing all the Brian Jonestown Massacre's catalogue and new releases, Anton also was instrumental in all the signings that are now on A Recordings. Using Anton's studio in Berlin it has helped some of the bands on the label to release their records. The label now has released over 10 different bands, The Blue Angel Lounge, Dirty Beaches, Sleaford Mods, Swearing At Motorists, Tim Burgess (Charlatans UK) , Magic Castles, Weird Owl, The KVB, Les Big Byrd, Third Sound, Gunman & the Holy Ghost & Altered Hours .

Anton Newcombe and Dot Allison present an album together under the moniker All Seeing Dolls. Anton Newcombe is the founder, the sole constant and the creative mastermind at the center of one of music's most fascinating bands; Brian Jonestown Massacre. He's a frontman, songwriter, composer, studio owner, multi-instrumentalist, producer, engineer, father and force of nature. There have been 21 BJM albums over the last 30 years, each embarking on their own mind-expanding adventure and exploring the outer realms of rock'n'roll; psychedelic rock, country-blues, snarling rock'n'roll, blissed-out noise-pop and more. Newcombe has established himself as a once-in-a-lifetime talent, a revolutionary force in modern music and an underground hero. Dot Allison released her debut solo album Afterglow in 1999. Over the years she has strived to keep the listener on a journey -- and herself too. She revolts against what she has done before, to evolve and not just occupy the same space. That journey has taken her from Afterglow's broad church to the sultry synth-pop of We Are Science (2002), the lush, baroque Exaltation Of Larks (2007) and the eclectic, rootsy drama of Room 7½ (2009). After a hiatus to raise her family she returned with the graceful acoustic folk record Heart-Shaped Scars (2021) and the haunting, barely there beauty of Consciousology (2023). The range of guest stars on Allison's records is equally broad: where else would you find a cast list that includes Kevin Shields, Hal David, Paul Weller, Pete Doherty, and Darren Emerson.

Minneapolis psych-rockers Magic Castles are back with a new album, Sun Reign, making an exciting return after founder and songwriter Jason Edmonds suffered a near fatal car accident in November 2019. Magic Castles are well-versed in the ways of psychedelically-inclined folk-rock. Edmonds's smooth vocal harmonies float above the guitars, creating a lush, almost Byrds-esque soundscape. The layered arrangements incorporate Farfisa organ, synths, and dreamy string arrangements. Sun Reign is the band's fourth release on Anton Newcombe's label A Recordings Ltd. Ironically similar to Brian Jonestown Massacre, the Magic Castles have been plagued by lineup changes over the years. Due to this and other factors, in 2016, Edmonds, a single father, decided to take a short hiatus from regular live shows and touring to focus on his family. During that time, (2016-2019) Edmonds, an introverted multi-instrumentalist, continued to record new material in his studio, and also record with a new band at Neil Weir's studio Blue Bell Knoll, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The results of these sessions are the current release, Sun Reign. In November of 2019, tragedy struck and Edmonds was seriously injured in a car accident that required hospitalization and surgery. Friends started a GoFundMe that raised over $20k USD for the uninsured musician's hospital bills, showing an incredible outpouring of love and support for him and his family. Fortunately, Edmonds has made a complete recovery from his injuries and has bounced back remarkably well. In early 2020, Edmonds managed to finish the remaining work on the album Sun Reign, including a previously unreleased song, "Surmise", penned by guitarist Jermiah Doering, and a rare cover of a moody 1966 garage rock song "Ode to the Wind" by Danny and the Counts. Edmonds also began working with a booking agency, planning a return tour to Europe with the band to support the new album. Unfortunately, it was not to be. Due to the global pandemic crisis of Covid-19, the album was delayed until 2021, and the promising tour was cancelled. In May of 2020, Minneapolis police killed George Floyd two blocks from Edmonds's home, which incited riots across the country. The protests led to the burning of Minneapolis, where a long-time music venue and many other buildings were lost. Edmonds' studio was not destroyed although many nearby buildings were. Edmonds is a known supporter of Black Lives Matter. A lot has happened to the Magic Castles since this was released in April 2021 this release took over a year to be manufactured, the band have toured with the Brian Jonestown Massacre and the Warlocks in the USA in 2022, and the track "Lost Dimension" was used in the HBO series Succession so not a bad 2022 for the band.

It is very rarely that a musical project lives up to the billing of being a "supergroup". However, the exception to this rule comes in the shape of L'Epee. A stellar combination of the talents of The Brian Jonestown Massacre's Anton Newcombe, cinematic femme fatale Emmanuelle Seigner and ice-cool pop provocateurs The Limiñanas, L'Epee transcend artistic and traditional borders. Far from being defeated by a world seemingly regressing into turmoil, L'Epee's strength comes from a long history of challenging the status quo -- they all share a fierce intelligence and an outsider aesthetic which, over the decades, has been sharpened to a razor's edge. Fitting, then, that their name translates as "The Sword". This pent-up creative energy has been channeled into their extraordinary debut album, Diabolique. Named in tribute to Mario Bava's 1968 cult classic Danger: Diabolik, it's a musical masterclass where elements of garage, ye-ye, sleaze rock, cult soundtracks, sci-fi, spaghetti westerns, and girl-group pop noir are combined with the cut-and-thrust zeal of a band bursting with ideas and energy. All delivered by Emmanuelle in a sultry Gallic drawl which will send a frisson of recognition through anyone familiar with her iconic roles in, among many others, Frantic (1988), Venus In Fur (2013), and Bitter Moon (1992) (all directed by her husband, Roman Polanski). "I've loved rock music since I was a kid," she says, namechecking Lou Reed, The Velvet Underground, and The Stooges as key influences. The debut album release from L'Epee, the band of Emmanuelle Seigner (Ultra Orange & Emmanuelle), Anton Newcombe (The Brian Jonestown Massacre), Lionel and Marie Liminana (The Limiñanas). It is very rarely that a musical project lives up to the billing of being a "supergroup". However, the exception to this rule comes in the shape of L'Epee. A stellar combination of the talents of The Brian Jonestown Massacre's Anton Newcombe, cinematic femme fatale Emmanuelle Seigner and ice-cool pop provocateurs The Limiñanas, L'Epee transcend artistic and traditional borders. Far from being defeated by a world seemingly regressing into turmoil, L'Epee's strength comes from a long history of challenging the status quo -- they all share a fierce intelligence and an outsider aesthetic which, over the decades, has been sharpened to a razor's edge. Fitting, then, that their name translates as "The Sword". This pent-up creative energy has been channeled into their extraordinary debut album, Diabolique. Named in tribute to Mario Bava's 1968 cult classic Danger: Diabolik, it's a musical masterclass where elements of garage, ye-ye, sleaze rock, cult soundtracks, sci-fi, spaghetti westerns, and girl-group pop noir are combined with the cut-and-thrust zeal of a band bursting with ideas and energy. All delivered by Emmanuelle in a sultry Gallic drawl which will send a frisson of recognition through anyone familiar with her iconic roles in, among many others, Frantic (1988), Venus In Fur (2013), and Bitter Moon (1992) (all directed by her husband, Roman Polanski). "I've loved rock music since I was a kid," she says, namechecking Lou Reed, The Velvet Underground, and The Stooges as key influences. Having asked close friend Bertrand Belin to provide lyrics for three further tracks ("Grande", "On Dansait Avec Elle", and "Lou"), the trio set to work at The Limiñanas' studio in Cabestany, Southern France, in November 2017. Satisfied with the results, the trio flew to Berlin to hook up with Anton and Andrea Wright at his Cobra Studio in Berlin. Utilizing a treasure trove of vintage equipment, Anton set to work, re-recording the drums with Marie and adding -- and deleting -- tracks so that the shifting layers of sound suited the mood of each individual track.

Exit EP is the second release by The Vacant Lots on Anton Newcombe's label A Recordings. Recorded in Berlin in 2017 over three days in between tours with The Dandy Warhols and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Anton Newcombe played bass, synths, guitars, and backing vocals on previous single "Bells", as well as operated the desk. Jared Artaud of the band goes into the recording process: "About a week or so before we left for tour I just invited Anton and his wife out to dinner, since we were gonna have a few days off in Berlin. He said 'f*ck that? Let's make a record? come ready with your ideas.' And that was how we made Berlin EP. I like working with Anton in the studio because through this collaboration we're able to distill ideas on the spot and turn fragments into songs. Anton pushes you further to get the best results and that really drives the process of making records. With Anton you don't get more than one or two takes to record something. You're executing your ideas with speed and intensity then moving on to the next idea. There is no time to overthink when you're constantly creating." 180 gram, white vinyl.
The Vacant Lots are an American psych-electronic duo comprised of Jared Artaud and Brian MacFadyen. The key element of The Vacant Lots' minimalist, primitive rock and roll songs is their boundless energy, which tears up the psych template with a genuine punk spirit. The notion of duality is also a recurring theme in the band's minimal means maximum effect aesthetic, whether in their lyrics or fiercely monochromatic artwork. The group has collaborated with underground music legends including; Sonic Boom, who mixed their debut album Departure (2014), Alan Vega of Suicide (whose vocals are featured on the band's second album Endless Night (2017) and who they've done a split 10" with), and Anton Newcombe who has recorded and produced two EPs at his Cobra Studio in Berlin with the band.

The self-titled, nine-track album is released on Anton Newcombe's A Recordings, and it was recorded and produced at Anton's Cobra Studio in Berlin. The album was originally going to be released in September of 2018, but due to a hugely successful global tour -- taking in USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Europe -- the release was delayed. Recorded in early 2018, the album features Sara Neidorf on drums, Heike Marie Radeker (LeVent) on bass, Hakon Adalsteinsson (BJM, Third Sound, Gunman, Holy Ghost) on guitar, and Anton Newcombe on multiple instruments. Also making a guest vocal appearance on "Tombes Oubliées" is Rike Bienert who has sung on previous BJM albums. The band performed songs from the album throughout the European leg of the 2018 tour. Anton Newcombe has been a very busy man over the past few years, having released four critically-acclaimed Brian Jonestown Massacre albums and an EP, one soundtrack album, and two albums with Tess Parks. All releases were fully recorded and produced at Anton's studio. The Brian Jonestown Massacre track "Bon Bon" was used in the 2015 Palm D'Or winner Dheepan. Anton penned the soundtrack for Moon Dogs, a film directed by multi-BAFTA nominated Philip John (Svengali, Downton Abbey, Being Human).
