LP version. Red vinyl. Bill Frisell is undoubtedly one of the most influential musicians in today's jazz scene. His compositions are, however, little explored: either because of the lack of the necessary critical distance, either because their simple hidden look hides folds that are difficult to penetrate. From a musical point of view, Unscientific Italians is not so much a tribute or an orchestral reworking of Frisell's repertoire, but rather a rewriting and idiosyncratic orchestration that borrows the compositional and instrumental language of the American guitarist. It is a work that also has a documentary value, since it gives large space to seminal phase of Frisell's record production -- the early nineties -- which today seems to be forgotten despite its definitive consecration in terms of audience and critics. This record release, the first of two volumes, is published with the approval of Frisell himself, who generously donated some of his own sketches for cover graphics. Features songs from Before We Were Born, History, Mystery, Where in the World?, Lookout For Hope, Bill Frisell Quartet, and Gone, Just Like a Train. Personnel: Mirco Rubegni - trumpet, flugelhorn, French horn; Fulvio Sigurtà - trumpet, flugelhorn; Filippo Vignato - trombone; Federico Pierantoni - trombone; Cristiano Arcelli - alto sax, soprano sax, bass clarinet; Piero Bittolo Bon - alto sax, clarinet, bass clarinet; Francesco Bigoni - tenor sax, clarinet, live electronics on brass; Rossano Emili - baritone sax, bass clarinet; Alfonso Santimone - piano, live electronics on clarinets; Danilo Gallo - double bass; Zeno De Rossi - drums.
