"'Va-Va-Va' is a little pop storm, a giddy avalanche that, like a classic early Associates single, fizzes with melody and its own strange internal logic. You'll hear the band's love of The Cocteau Twins and The Beach Boys in the gorgeous, ethereal harmonies of these three songs (particularly the B-side 'Wrapped In Plastic'), but also in their dancefloor savvy. The band's own 'Disco Mix' is 7 minutes of disco/synth heaven -- like the best remix Daft Punk never made. Vinyl-only track 'Go Aquatic,' meanwhile, moves from post-rock ambience through lush melody to somewhere between classic New Order and Squarepusher.
