SCSI-9 (Anton Kubikov and Maxim Miluytenko) are Moscow's most endearing minimal techno/house act, and this is their third full-length release. From Salo to Force Tracks, Trapez, Tyrant and beyond, these lads have captivated DJs and dancefloors around the world with their remarkable ability to construct an uplifting, emotive mood fuelled by the pulse of the unprejudiced, techy beat. Dance music has evolved to astronomical proportions over the years in Russia and SCSI-9 manage to keep on top of it; whether it be hosting international talent or through their overlooked label imprint Pro-Tez, their contributions and dedication to the growth of the minimal scene there is immeasurable. Though they've kept the vinyl purists intoxicated with a steady stream of 12" singles, it's been over two years since their 2006 Kompakt album The Line of Nine. With Easy As Down, they're back in full effect, gracing us with their trademark deep, emotive minimal house again. This album puts forward a fantastic cluster of dimension and depth to an overpopulated world of disposable, faceless music that exists in minimal techno currently. In order to enhance the organic feeling of their music, they invited some live musicians to their studio. But don't worry, Easy As Down is far away from blimpish lounge jazz. At the point where classic deep house is bound to its tradition, SCSI-9 pursue a more scientific and modern approach, while still worshipping the beauty and spirituality of the old school.
