Bergen is the next, and natural step in the expanding career of Dutch producer Tom Trago. The acclaimed producer behind Voyage Direct (RH 025CD, 2010) will release his fourth LP, with the label and crew he's built a close relationship with over the past ten years, Dekmantel. Bergen is an LP that connects his legacy, family, and commitment to dance music in one resplendent package. Having relocated from Amsterdam, Tom Trago set up his new studio in the coastal town of Bergen, located in the northern Netherlands. Recorded in his family house, with the sea at one side, and the countryside to the other, the resultant record is a crafted piece of art, full of space, and the classic machine-driven, house music aesthetic that has come to represent Trago's sound. The spacey-passively-paced LP intro "Bergen" was the first to be picked up by Dekmantel's Casper Tielrooij. Yet it was the electro-orientated "Zeeweg" that became the template for the rest of the record. The b-boy electro vibe, with its melodramatic synth melody was influenced by the road that leads to his scenic retreat -- with slow, steady curves, and a gentle, upward trajectory, "Zeeweg" and its album namesake, twist and turn in fluid synchronicity. "The Creation Of Lalibela" plays on this world music vibe, with ethereal and fun key patterns, influenced by the work of Mulatu Astatke. "Always Be With You" is one of the LP's standout tracks, epitomizing the new album's country settings, and featuring his girlfriend on vocals; it swings at a steady, up-beat pace, rich with harmony, color, and melody. Elsewhere on the album, Trago sticks to his dancefloor roots, "Faith Belongs To Us' is molded in a Chicago-to- Amsterdam house style, while album closer "Working Machines" plays with resonance and atmospherics, creating a moody, pulsing yet stylish rhythm. Having been raised in a musically-driven, and open-spirited household in which the producer grew up learning the piano, it didn't take long for Tom Trago to be indoctrinated into the new school of Amsterdam producers. Bergen's analog tools lend to its organic sound, one honed and crafted by its natural surroundings, and matured approach by one of the Netherland's most accomplished producers.

Tom Trago has decided to pay tribute to Yamaha's DX7 synthesizer by using it as inspiration for Serene Waters. Five sparkling, spacey and melodious tracks, from the delicate and rush-inducing melodies of dreamy, deep electro opener "Harvest" and the two contrasting mixes of "Opulent"; variations on a throbbing, futurist techno theme rich in glacial melody lines, bustling synth-bass, and spacey chords. "XYZ" is a crunchier and snappier electro outing and "Rain Room", nestled in the center of the EP, sees Trago manipulate his machines to get a far more psychedelic sound.

Tom Trago presents Being Broke -- a bright and groovy three-tracker aimed straight at the dancefloor. The title-track is a bumping house groove built with playful vocal samples and nifty synth lines. Next are two versions of "Good Lies" -- the first rolling out over its elongated duration with sharp, galloping hats and free-flowing Rhodes notes. The "Good Christian Edit" offers up a lighter, more early-doors affair bringing a nicely rounded package to a close.

Tom Trago has supplemented a nonstop schedule of DJ gigs, remixes, and studio collaborations by using Voyage Direct to promote the music of Dutch producers old and new, including Aardvarck, Boris Werner, Maxi Mill, San Proper, Elias Mazian, and Magnesii. Here he delivers his first solo single since 2013, "Hidden Heart of Gold," with virtual waves of ambient chords, eyes-closed melodies reminiscent of classic stargazing techno, and disembodied vocal samples over a tough but unfussy machine drum rhythm and addictive bassline. The "Ambient Mix" is a winding, beatless excursion brimming with hazy, late-night beauty. Gentle, immersive, grandiose.

The Light Fantastic is a dancefloor-oriented club album with a range of influences like deep house, vintage synthesizers, classic boogie, disco, Chicago jack, acid house, and even a dash of full-throttle rave revivalism. There are many ways to move forward as an artist. You can reinvent yourself, keep track of fashions, or try bold new things. Tom Trago has spent the best part of 10 years pushing his sound in impressive new directions. Yet on this album, the well-regarded Amsterdam-based producer has done things slightly differently. This time round, his influences come from much closer to home, and he has admitted to being inspired by the dancefloor-focused style with which he made his name. Trago is an old hand at this kind of thing. Back in 2009, his debut album, Voyage Direct (RH 025CD), impressed with its warm, disco-centric blends of full-throttle deep house and boogie-influenced synthesizer funk. He cast his net wider on 2011's Iris (RH 114CD/LP), choosing to work with a wide variety of international collaborators on an album that laid bare his myriad of musical influences. On The Light Fantastic, he's decided to "step back to move forwards" with a warm, involving set that puts the simple pleasures of the best dancefloor moments at its heart. "I tried to go a bit back towards the style I was doing on Voyage Direct, to dancefloor beats with deeper impact," Trago admits. "I was trying to make tracks that work on the dancefloor, but also move your heart." There are many collaborations on The Light Fantastic, but listen out for contributions from Steffi, Ben Westbeech, "studio neighbor" San Proper, Makam, vocalist Holly Wood and, most surprisingly, a local club owner who just happened to swing by the studio. "Using my friends was a big part of the process," Trago admits. "One of the points of the album was using people who were close to home, part of the family almost." It's an approach that definitely paid dividends. Certainly, this celebration of Amsterdam's blossoming electronic music scene adds a little extra frisson of excitement to The Light Fantastic's impressive vibrancy.

Tom Trago presents a 12" album sampler of his forthcoming The Light Fantastic. Featuring the dancefloor stomper "Two Together" which was co-produced by Steffi, "True Friends" featuring Breach on the vocals, and the non-album track "Avenido." Trago was keen to recapture the essence of his early work, and particularly the melodic warmth, kaleidoscopic chords and robust grooves that characterized his 2009 debut album, Voyage Direct. These tracks ooze a gleeful sense of fun, while retaining depth and definition.

Tom Trago and Cinnaman got together in the studio and out came "Rise Up." They somehow managed to mix freestyle, minimal, lo-fi and bass together to create a cross-over house explosion. "Sky High" sounds like a late-night basement session, which is actually the case, recorded in the studio of the Serendeepity/Barking Dogs crew, with San Proper and friends joining in on vocals. Comes as a vocal dub and as an original demo mix.

Rush Hour presents remixes from Tom Trago's Iris album (RH 114CD/LP). Larry Heard kicks off this set with his Fingers signature sound, turning "What You Do" into a deep and emotional piece -- sturdy enough to be a sensual late-night warehouse mover. Linkwood reworks "Being With You," giving it a grandiose hi-tech soul spin reminiscent of older Carl Craig productions. KiNK goes ballistic on "What You Do," pushing the track to madman level. There's an instrumental dub mix, too.

RH 114DUB-EP

Four dancefloor-oriented dubs from Tom Trago's genre-defying album Iris (RH 114CD/LP). Trago translates four atmospheric interludes into steamy dancefloor power. Most of these versions were created from his live shows. And yes, one of the songs is called "Dubtopia" -- but you'll love it.

After releasing Voyage Direct (RH 025CD) in 2009, Tom Trago has spent the last two years finding his signature sound. The outcome of this search has resulted in Iris. Where Voyage Direct was his homage to disco, Iris deals with all of Tom's musical inspirations. Shaping these inspirations into a new sound and creating an exciting mix is where Tom really succeeds. Iris can be best described as a futuristic soul album. It's an album that takes the listener on a voyage into the future of dance music -- a future where all genres and directions are fused together, from soul to techno, from hip-hop to electro and from classical to disco. Tom has spent countless hours recording for Iris in his studio, on the road and in Los Angeles, where he recorded "So Cold," together with Om'mas Keith of Sa-Ra. Other vocalists featured are Tyree Cooper, Oliver Daysoul, Romanthony and San Proper. The selection of vocalists underlines the diversity of this album. You are cordially invited aboard Tom's musical spaceship, which will no doubt bring you towards the borders of your own imagination. Also features an appearance by Meikbar.

This is the third and final Tom Trago Voyage Direct remix EP. Up-and-coming Amsterdam local DJ and beat-maker FS Green comes up with two remixes, giving both tracks a surprising, new feel. While the more downtempo vibe of his remix of "Voyage Direct" wouldn't have been out of place on a Beat Dimensions release, his remix of "Lost In The Streets" goes uptempo and has a cross-over dancefloor potential. Banging! It comes as a limited, green vinyl edition.

The second and final Tom Trago Voyage Direct (RH 025CD/LP) remix EP, including four remixes from his homeland of Amsterdam: Aardvarck, Boris Werner, San Proper and Sotu The Traveller. Boris delivers an even deeper mix of "Lost In The Streets Of NY," which has already been played by the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, et al. Aardvarck roughens up "On The Side" while San Proper discofies "Use Me" and Sotu morphs the title track into a dubstep/house hybrid.

This is a solid remix EP of tracks taken from Tom Trago's Voyage Direct (RH 025CD/LP). Man of the moment Motor City Drum Ensemble cooks up a solid house remix of "Passion" that is very classy! On the flip, Yuro & Trago toughen up "Brothers Of String" into a hypnotic house builder. Lastly, Actress transforms "Lost In The Streets Of NYC" into a classic Detroit workout, reminiscent of Infiniti or Anthony "Shake" Shakir.

Tom Trago is part of the new school of Amsterdam producers. He is also an accomplished DJ and is the "Trago" in Yuro&Trago with Cinnaman (known from their 2007 debut Primary Roots, 2008). Voyage Direct is Tom Trago's long-awaited follow-up to his first EP on Rush Hour, 2006's Live With The BBQ. This 7-track mini-album shows his diversity within the genre of house, reaffirming that house music can still be sexy, deep, raw, emotional and passionate. The package includes the promo-released "Passion," plus a host of new tracks, and two bonus tracks. Highlights could be the piano-led schaffel-meditation of "Lost In The Streets Of NYC," the raw, almost motorik/disco rhythm of "On The Side," or the swing of "Brothers Of String," but in fact, every track is a highlight in its own right. A must-have for any house connoisseur or lover of Detroit-ish touches. Trago is a true original in the burgeoning Amsterdam scene, and an innovator in tiny touches that make everything fit perfectly to make your body move.
