OSTGUT 110EP
Berghain resident Somewhen debuts on Ostgut Ton with four-track EP, AFL, offering his own take on distorted techno, combining squelchy, ultra-saturated drums with chromatic basslines, and EBM inflections. "Ryte" thrusts forward at 133 BPM with a sinister Gabi Delgado-like chant, whipping snares and metallic hats. On "Undress" things slow down significantly, while menacing vocals and melodic synths guide the listener through a hypnotic sonic tunnel. "AFL" emerges into rave territory, with modulating synth figures and bass drones made for the floor. On "Kilo" Somewhen reintroduces sinister, staccato vocals, minimalistic melody, and ominous pads. AFL is equal portions thrash and groove.

UTON 010EP
Berlin producer Somewhen presents his Null EP. The techno cut "Inward" a pounding kick drum with percussive elements adding a rich layer of bleeps and clicks. "Grit" resets the tempo using of hypnotically slow-picked bass, shimmering synth melodies from far spaces and a ruptured rhythm progression. "Null Drift" picks up the pace and kick again and keeps relentlessly going throughout its six minutes, adding swelling then decaying synth pads, while drones and acute percussion cater for relief. "Diskret" closes with a targeted and straight rhythm, lashing claps, meandering melodies and protruding drum machine slaps.
