"Norbert Grandl (NBI Orchester et al), Holger lehmann (Girls United, Goldmund et al) and Leonhard Lorek invited Laura W. Aschkeit into the recording studio for 'White Canary'. Their subject matter this time is as rare as their releases: neukölln. Only David Bowie before them has ever serenaded this Berlin district, and that was twenty-eight years ago. In 'White Canary', Mendelsson and Laura W. Aschkeit put the 'High' into high kitsch. Kylie Minouge and Nick Cave exchange roles in a glorious loser-aria. 'The largest agricultural area in neukölln is its cemeteries. The second largest is taken up with the cultivation of marihuana', writes Leonhard Lorek in Neuköllnbuch (pub. Verbrecher verlag). Mixes by Jahcoozi (wmf / hamton), Kyborg (nbi / raster-noton), Brigade Mondaine (nbi / digitalkranky) and Trike (bpitch ctrl. / sender / gigolo) each have their own take on Mendelsson's relationship to neukölln."
