Sowing Records present a reissue of Joao Gilberto's self-titled third album, originally released in 1961. The fruit of the collaboration between Gilberto and the great composer and arranger Antonio Carlos Jobim and Walter Wanderley and his ensemble. This is one of the greatest pieces of work in the field of Brazilian music. Gilberto's delicate singing moves on top of extremely subtle, elegant orchestral arrangements of various songs from a classic repertoire, "Samba da Minha Terra" and "Saudade da Bahia" (Dorival Caymmi), "O Barquinho" (Roberto Menescal/Ronaldo Bôscoli) without forgetting essential numbers by Carlos Lyra, Vinicius de Moraes, and Tom Jobim. A timeless masterpiece. Clear vinyl.

Down At Dawn present a reissue of The Warm World Of João Gilberto, originally released in 1963. In summer 1958, João Gilberto -- an unknown 28 year-old Brazilian guitarist and singer from Bahia -- made his recording debut as a singer with two songs "Chega de Saudade" and "Bim Bom". With a new rhythmic feeling, batida, and rich harmonies he laid the basis of the modern Brazilian samba, now known as bossa nova. Underpinned by his insouciantly swinging guitar, João's seductive, vibrato-less vocals caressed both ear and soul in a mesmerizing, highly addictive combination, refreshing and modern. "Chega De Saudade" was a hit, launching Gilberto's career and the bossa nova craze. Soon, singers and guitarists were trying to imitate him and composers were all on a "Desafinado" (the second of Gilberto's hits) and "Chega De Saudade" kick. The long-awaited renewal of the Brazilian samba was now a fact. Antonio Carlos Jobim said: "Gilberto appeared as a light, as a big star in the firmament, in the heavens. He became a focus, because he was pulling the guitar in one way and singing the other way, which created a third thing that was profound. Yes, the guy who brought the bossa nova beat to the world was João Gilberto."

Wax Love present a reissue of João Gilberto's Chega De Saudade, originally released in 1959. The debut album from Brazilian musical legend João Gilberto features the most famous recording of the title track by Antonio Carlos Jobim, widely regarded as the first bossa nova song ever recorded. Hailed as the fourth best Brazilian album of all time by Rolling Stone, it also features his fantastic interpretation of another Jobim classic, "Desafinado", and his own "Bim-Bom" which many believe to be the first written bossa nova track. Needless to say, this album is a milestone in Brazilian recordings and bossa nova music and essential to any serious collection of either.

"Retrospective compilation featuring João Gilberto's seminal and profoundly influential first three albums on one CD. João Gilberto remains something of a perplexing enigma. A reluctant star of a musical genre he helped pioneer, the bossa nova singer/guitarist has steadfastly rejected the limelight for fifty years. Gilberto's music however is unimpeachable and as a musician he nothing short of a genius. This compilation comprises João Gilberto's seminal and profoundly influential first three albums in full, and in doing so chronicles a key early phase in the evolution of bossa nova music. Appended to these tracks are two rare non-album bonus cuts, only previously released on an EP in 1959."
