BRAME 004EP
|
Sligo-born Berlin-based duo Brame & Hamo, aka Tiarnan McMorrow and Conor Hamilton, Celebrity Impersonator EP via their own imprint, Brame & Hamo. The title reflects the duo's love of celebrity impersonators whilst growing up. On "Midnight Express", the rolling melodics nod to the early sounds of prog-house and Italo, acting as a transition to their signature trance-via-techno. On the B-Side, a moody four-four that edges into the darker realms with their love of breakbeat shimmering through, resulting in a club-ready anthem. Melting down into a rolling trance groove with a late-night heady feel, "Request Rhythm" closes the EP.

Brame & Hamo are back with the third release on their eponymous imprint. "Parade Rain" is a peak-time house roller with pulsing bass, meditative pads, and airy pipes. "Sports Complex", the darkest of the EP, builds an intense energy with a heavy hitting 808, shuttering reflections, a driving 303 line topped off with a trance-inducing melody. The title track is a breakbeat workout honing a classy piano riff complimented with emotional synths, strings, and more acid lines. Tuff City Kids, aka Gerd Janson and Lauer, round it up with a club ready interpretation of their title track.

Brame & Hamo return to their own imprint with Club Orange EP. The Irish duo honor a fellow countryman, the most successful Irish footballer of all time, Roy Keane. On "Space Dub" a similar sense of soul is buried within a woozy, spaced-out atmosphere that simultaneously soars cosmically, yet kicks hard. On "Club Orange", Brame & Hamo command a complex, irresistible atmosphere that's the sound of an interplanetary shindig, as classic house rhythms intertwine with soaring synthesis and shots of ecstatic chatter from every conceivable angle.

BRAME 001EP

Brame & Hamo take full control with their debut release on their fresh, personal imprint. "Trants" is awash in a retro-futurist haze, flavors of early bleep techno, dusty drums, and outright trance flavors provide the ingredients for a euphoria-inducing trip. Things get much tougher throughout "Hurt You", which begins with an immediate strike of chunky percussion, jacking Chi-town rhythms, and a menacing organ line. "Clarence" lives up to its "Smooth Mix" subtitle, as a lounging piano line gently gives way to vibrant sax and a soothing female vocal sample, while still maintaining an irresistible groove.

SPSQ 003EP
|
Brame & Hamo return to their Splendor & Squalour imprint following their 2015 Lamaj's Secret EP (DIRT 089EP) and a string of remixes for Kolour LTD, Heist, and Dirt Crew (their very successful remix of Harry Wolfman & Loz Goddard's "Uncle Buck" (DIRT 094EP. 2016)). This EP opens with "Kebab Dreams," taking the listener on a trip to the moon with greasy drums and a saucy groove. MPC workout "Cert City" pays homage to the duo's hometown of Sligo, Ireland. Peak-time closer "Retch Wretchedness" takes a darker turn to the spookier side of Brame & Hamo while still keeping the jazzy touch.

The sleepy seaside town of Sligo, on Ireland's Atlantic coast, seems an unlikely location for a deep house label -- yet this debut 12" from the Sligo-based Splendor & Squalor label comes from two residents of the town, longtime DJ buddies and hip hop/deep house fusionists Brame and Hamo. The EP delivers beats that swing, sensual strings, chunky bass, and pads that wrap themselves around your body. The duo's collaborative "Clockwork" -- arguably the pick of the bunch -- is remixed by Session Victim (think ultra-deep goodness), while Hamo's sample-heavy "S.O.U.L." offers the perfect balance between smiling deep house and classic hip-house.

DIRT 089EP
|
Since debuting with Street Urchin (DIRT 078EP) on Dirt Crew in 2014, Brame & Hamo have been busy with a massive release on Detroit Swindle's Heist label (HEIST 009EP) and the launch of their own Splendor & Squalor label, which kicked off with an EP featuring a remix from Session Victim. Here, opener "Lamaj" drips with melodic samples, jazz-tainted drums, and bass-driven funk. Andy Hart's remix deepens its vibe with some bass toms. "Four Lights" slows things down a little with nostalgia-touched soul- and groove-samples. "Garlic Fist Pump" moves to the dancefloor with dynamic live drums and subtle vocal snips.

180-gram vinyl. The Irish town of Sligo might not mean a whole lot to you, but after this release, you'll know that it has brought forth two of the funkiest Irish guys you've ever seen. This EP follows their chart-topping 2015 #001 EP on their Splendor & Squalour label, and it's filled with jazzy chords, lovely loose percussion, and soul samples. "Parish Rumors" will fill your peak-time needs; "Ghetto for You" and "Hotshot" have a nice low-slung vibe and come with enough low-end and swing to get even the stiffest of hips swinging.

DIRT 078EP
|
Brame & Hamo from Sligo in Ireland have teamed up for the first time ever for this fine deep debut EP. "Street Urchin" and "Ghetto Lament" are two pieces of classic deep house with dark, rolling bass lines and soulful chord progressions, and the piano sample in "Ghetto Lament" is a beautiful reference to the golden era of disco. Glenn Astro & Imyrmind are on the remix -- these guys have been putting out some serious dope stuff lately and this remix is no exception. "Retrospect" is more straightforward and stripped-down, with stabby groovers and quirky acid lines that work extremely well on the dancefloors.
