"King of the electric slide guitar and one of the most influential blues guitarists / vocalists of all time, Elmore James had his first hit in 1951, with 'Dust My Broom', the opening riff of which is perhaps the single most recognizable in the history of blues. During the early fifties his band was one of the most popular on the Chicago blues scene and throughout the decade James recorded a flurry of sides for many different labels. However, James, like many Chicago bluesmen was originally from Mississippi (b. 1918) and during his early years he played the southern circuit, where he had the chance to meet and play with Robert Johnson, Sonny Boy Williamson and Howlin' Wolf. Unfortunately James died in 1963 at the age of 45, but not before influencing a new generation of rock & roll guitarists (i.e. Jimi Hendrix and Brian Jones to name just a few). Featuring some early sides with Ike Turner on piano, as well as his 'classic' Broomdusters line-up with Johnny Jones on piano and JT Brown on sax for a grand total of 54 tracks recorded from 1952-1960! A definitive retrospective of one of the giants of the blues now on both vinyl and CD versions in one shot!" Includes 2 CDs featuring all the material on the 3 LPs.
